We stayed for the last 2 days of our holiday in Turkey at th Sheraton Voyager resort in Antalya. The hotel is quite centrally located (close to the tram terminal) and overlooks the sea and mountains near the city. The rooms are comfortable and the pool is great(warm and large). The bearfast is good and the service is friendly. Wished we stayed longer here!
The 7 Mehmet restaurant is in the vicinity (20' walk) and worth patronizing. The tram stop is useful to get into the old town (4 stops) but runs only until 9pm.
We’ve just returned from a 2 week stay at the sea life resort hotel, our party consisted of two adults and children aged 11 and 7. We arrived at 2am, when we checked into our room we were not happy as the air con did not seem to be working properly, the room was like an oven, we did contact reception but because of the time of night little could be done till 8 o’clock the next morning, after an uncomfortable night we went down to reception and were told there were no more rooms available, they sent someone up to check the air con who said it was normal, we did not think this was the case. We were not getting anywhere until we suggested paying for an upgrade, their attitude then changed they said there would be a bigger, nicer room available after 12 o’clock on the front of the hotel, they took us up to show us a similar room to the one offered to us. We thought we were getting a better and bigger room and handed over the extra money but never received a receipt which we were assured would be sorted out. At 12 o’clock we were shown up to our room which turned out to be exactly the same size as our original room, after marching down to the reception the situation was resolved, we were told they made a mistake with the room numbers, but this was not a very good start to the holiday.
We choose the hotel as it seemed to put itself across as a good hotel which catered well for the children. There are 4 pools in the hotel one is situated inside in the spa area though inside this pool is probably the safest for children as there are staff in attendance and things do not get out of hand in this pool, the same can not be said about the 3 pools outside, you let your young children use these at your peril the pools are small and can get quite crowded and when you get grown men playing around throwing each other off each others backs or doing back flips into the pool with a lot of young children swimming around its is only a matter of time before an accident occurs, this is what happened to our own little girl who while swimming was kicked on the back of the head and smashed her face off the side of the pool resulting in a black eye which came up the size of a golf ball. The staff of the hotel adopted an attitude of accidents will happen and were only really interested in wanting our insurance details in the event of our daughter needing further treatment. The management did have two small signs situated by the top pool stating they accepted no responsibility for any accidents that occurred round the pool and the safety of the children was the responsibility of the parents. Yes while I agree people should try and monitor their children I do not think this is an acceptable response to the problem, the hotel has a duty of care towards it guests, in advertising the hotel, they use the pool area as a major selling point so should try to take every step to ensure the safety of their guests. the two main pools have sun beds round and are situated at the front of the hotel there are not enough beds to cater for everyone and towels are put down by guests early in the morning with many beds then left vacant for long periods of the day, I did note the hotel did respond to this by putting up a sign to ask guests to stop this practice but no further action was taken. The area around the pool was very very slippery when wet, not a day went by without some sort of accident, some minor, some major ranging from chipped teeth, bruises, sprains and split heads. If the hotel invested in staff to monitor activity in the pools and took steps to try and make the sides of the pool less slippery these would be steps in the right direction and may make the hotel more deserving of a five star rating. On the subject of my daughter’s injury I would like to thank the GP who was on his holiday and went out of his way to help us. Another issue which needs to be addressed around the pool is the condition of the sun beds and the umbrellas, a good few of the sun beds were broken and the majority of the umbrellas were in a poor state of repair, not what you would expect from a five star hotel. If the wind picked up if took a lot of umbrellas out of their bases and I saw a number of people hit by flying umbrellas during the stay. Spending a day round the pool was never dull, but not really all for the right reasons, if you were lucky enough to get a bed and if you managed not to break you neck walking round the pool you only had to dodge the flying umbrellas not really my idea of a relaxing day round the pool. The animation team worked hard during the day round the pool with pool games and activities, the night time entertainment was a bit hit and miss, when it was good it was very good, with impressive dance routines and costumes, but when it was bad its was awful, there was a never ending bingo night and some comedy nights which were funny mainly because they were not funny at all, that maybe a bit unfair on the team as they were all very enthusiastic and very hard working.
The hotel is situated on a busy coast road with a pebbled beach the other side of the road, there are cafés lined all along the beach, these are numbered, the hotels beach is number 17, you can use the sun beds on this stretch for free but they do not allow you to take your own food or drink down. The area around the hotel does get busy at night There is a park opposite the hotel which has some very good cafes and some nice restaurants on the same road as the hotel, I would say it is first and foremost a Turkish resort with the cafes catering for the Turkish people, it was very interesting going into one of these cafes at night and seeing the live singing and dancing and the locals letting their hair down and enjoying themselves. If you do use one of these cafes beware, you receive nothing for free, if anything is offered to you do not assume it is complimentary, always check, at the end of a night we received a bit of a shock that we had been charged 20TYL for two small bowls of nuts on our bill. Also none of the cafes on the beach have toilets, there are public conveniences dotted along the stretch all of which you have to pay to use.
The cleanliness of the hotel, I can not fault, the maid came in every day and worked very hard as did all staff round the hotel. The food was plentiful you would never go hungry, the breakfast was the same every morning pretty much what you would expect, fruit juice, coffee tea cereals ham cheese etc. Lunch and dinner was the same every day apart from 6 or 7 different dishes and soups, they did have a barbecue grill out by the side of the pool most nights with fish chicken and lamb on different nights.
We did not really appreciate the food as all our party fell ill with sickness and diarrhoea during our stay at various times, I cannot say this was down to the food but we discovered talking to other guests they had the same things happening to them which was quite distressing. We all need medical attention back home as we are all still quite ill may be down to food, heat or pool but this will be investigated at home….
The guest relations was ok she spoke some English and helped us with transfer back to airport. We found out more information from the taxi driver on the way home, even said we had made a bad choice with the hotel and area.
I travel three times a year and from my experience would not grade this a 5 star hotel, don’t get me wrong the place looks clean and the staff work very hard and most were lovely. But I paid for a 5 star hotel and feel I did not get value for money so I will have to put this one down as a mistake, which is a shame they do some things well but are most let down by their health and safety issues which could be easily resolved.
go closer to amenties inthe town and listen to this true and honest review.
Definitely not a 4-star hotel, but a good value for money.
