There is a beach next to every rex resort, and the uniquely fascinating Antigua resort of Halycon Cove is no exception. It is, in so many ways, the dream Antigua hotel, offering you the perfect opportunity to enjoy a romantic stroll by night or a bracing swim before breakfast at an affordable price.

The beach at this Antigua resort on the shores of Dickenson Bay, is one of the most beautiful beaches in the entire Caribbean, never mind the over 300 other beaches that are to be found on this island.

Nonetheless, this is one of the hotels in Antigua that is best placed for day trips around this beautiful island. A stay at the Halcyon Cove by rex resorts for your Antigua holidays means plenty of sun, sea and sand.

Everything Antigua Holidays Should Be
You’ll always be kept entertained at this Antigua resort, which has plenty to keep you busy. Popular daytime activities include relaxing in the sun, making the most of the resort’s beach location, in addition to the many water sports that can also be enjoyed here.

Evenings at this Antigua hotel are equally enjoyable, with delicious food and authentically Caribbean entertainment. Unlike other Antigua holidays, the Halycon Cove by rex resorts boasts the romantic a la carte restaurant Warri Pier. Located on its own pier overlooking the ocean, this is everything Antigua holidays should be.

After you have wined and dined, the elegant Ciboney Lounge is the perfect place to relax and take in some traditional Antiguan culture, whilst the lively Lobby Bar has plenty of music-based entertainment for you to enjoy late into the night.

Halcyon Cove by rex resorts is a non smoking hotel.

The hotel is in a great location, right on the beautiful white sandy beach and a taxi from the airport was only about 15mins and $16usd . The staff are helpful, friendly and responsive and the evening entertainment lively. We only ate at the hotel on a couple of evenings but the food was very good, both in the main restaurant and out on the pier which is a lovely setting for dinner. There are a couple of restaurants along the beach which also surved great meals (one mexican one more eclectic) - expect to pay $60-80usd for a couple including wine. Other restaurants are available a short taxi ride away ($12usd) in St Johns or a walk up the hill from the hotel.
The hotels itself was ok, public rooms were fine and the provision of a 'hospitality suite' to shower after the beach for evening flights saved the cost of a room extension. We did get opportunity to see one of the pool view rooms which have been more recently built and it was very nice. The 'garden view' bedroom was a bit 'tired' but it was clean and functional and the shower well supplied with hot water. So the garden view rooms are not luxurious but well worth the money given the fact you would rather end up sat on the beach watch the glorious sunset than sitting in your room!

We absolutely loved our stay at the halcyon cove. We swapped the 1st room we was given and ended up with a poolside room which had a fantastic balcony with a sea view. The hotel was clean and all the staff were very friendly. We had room only and it was exceptional value for money. I cannot remember any negative points and would strongly recommend you stay here.

Top Tip: there was a beautiful beachside retaurant called coconut grove, we had dinner here and breakfast a couple of times..a fantatstic setting and wonderful food. This was only a short stroll along the sand from our hotel.

Room excellent; Both food and service in Warri Pier restaurant outstanding if a little expensive; Hotel facilities very good; staff helpful and pleasant.

Breakfast in main restaurant could have been better, and the breakfast restaurant supervisor could have been more polite!

Top Tip: Warri Pier restaurant

I recently stayed at the Halcyon in Antigua. I must say it was absolutely brilliant! if ever I went to Antigua again I would most definately stay there. After reading some reviews I was abit scared.

We were giving fresh towels everyday and our room was cleaned everyday also.

All I can say is if you go to Antigua make sure you stay in the Halcyon, although my only moan is that the Restaurant had specific opening times 7-9.30 which I thought was pretty silly.

The package we got from Travel Republic was really good value and the booking and flight went smoothly Excel Airways are actually very decent for a charter flight company. The hotel itself was not far from town and made up of many apartments over the resort, ours was overlooking the pool and wonderfully kitted out with a TV, balcony and ensuite bathroom.
Anitgua is a beautiful island to stay on and I would highly recommend staying there for a week or two the locals are a great bunch and everyone is always willing to help and show you around, they are very country proud.

Top Tip: Along Dickenson Bay down the beach from the Rex Halcyon where we stayed are two great restaurants serving until about 9:30pm most nights of the week; The Beach and The Coconut Grove. Both serve fresh catch of the day fish and a standard menu, the Beach even serve Sushi.
If you are craving English food you can go down to the chippy hut open on Weds and Fridays towards Antigua village but the food isn't great.

For tours I would highly recommend Eli's Eco Tour which you can book before you go away on their website. The lads on the boat are very experienced and patient with their passengers and questions. There is also a Tree-top Canopy zip line tour which looked interesting but we only realised its existence on our last day so if anyone goes on it post a review so I know if it was any good.
My other top tip is to ask the locals, they no everything (of course) and are always willing to help.

A wonderfully relaxing hotel with very friendly and efficient staff who cannot do enough for you. Perhaps a bit 'tired' in parts but this is all part of its simple charm. The food was generally good but would have liked more Caribbean food included.

Lower end of 3 star at best. They claim 5 star. Everything a bit tatty. General management needs major improvement. [ The hotel has been sold in last month and new owners say they have a major refurb].
