A decent standard hotel with sufficient facilities from which to enjoy Rio from either a business or leisure perspective. Situated towards the Ipanema (the nicer) end of Copacabana beach, only one road back from the beach itself and only a 5 minute walk to Ipanema (15 min walk to Ipanema along the seafront).
Hotel is clean with decent sized en suite rooms with good views of the city from the small rooftop pool/bar. Don't expect any spectacular views from the rooms themselves (unless on the top few floors) as surrounding buildings block most angles.
Staff are very helpful and although will try sell you organised tours, will helpfully tell you which bus to get or order a taxi for you to get to your required destination if touring yourself as we did.
Breakfast is a simple but fairly extensive continental style of breads, jams, yoghurt, cereal, fruit, eggs, juices, etc.

Top Tip:
Rio de Janeiro has a lot of bad press of muggings... However, if you are aware of your surroundings and maintain a fairly discrete profile you will encounter few problems and experience an amazing city as it should be!
Bus and Metro transport around the city is good and cheap and perfectly safe during the day (we tended to take taxis after dark).
When hailing a taxi, ensure it is a yellow cab with blue stripe and has a company logo on the rear quarter. Ones without a company logo are freelance and can have a "tourist rate" setting on the meter!
Make sure you experience the churrasqueiras, where you pay a set price for all you can eat. Large skewers of different kinds of meat are served at the table, simply flip your counter over to red when full! Not one for the vegetarian.
