Lion Hotel

“ Fantastic. if i was being picky the food and service could improve, however great value, i will be going back.

“ Having decided to book a ski holiday with my father in law for my brother in law's 21st birthday present we decided to arrange it independently.

After picking up a few holiday brochures we decided on visiting Borovets, Bulgaria and chose the Lion Hotel.

The Lion Hotel was rated highly by all the major tour operators and had positive reviews posted by the high majority of visitors.

Upon arrival we were not disappointed, set slightly higher up the mountain in the forest rather than the heart of town, we were greeted by friendly staff and able to check in early.

Our room was clean, well decorated & spacious, with 2 single beds and a (rather squeaky but comfortable) sofa bed and a well-stocked mini bar fridge. The bathroom was a good size with bath/shower and was equipped with a hairdryer and phone!

I used ear plugs at night due to my fellow travellers snoring however there was no noise generated from other guests that would disturb your night’s sleep.

The facilities at the hotel were top notch, the food offered at the buffet (breakfast and dinner) was varied and of exceptional value when considering the price of the room or you could upgrade to the a la carte menu for traditional Bulgarian cuisine. The swimming pool (watch out for the slippery floor) could of been a little warmer but was great for a quick swim and a seated water jet session to loosen the aching muscles after all day skiing, followed by a quick trip to the sauna. You could also pay for a sports massage which comes highly recommended! The hotel bar has a wood fire, although if seated near it you could feel the draft if the automatic doors to the main entrance opened, the price of beer was reasonable if you didn’t fancy the trip into town (5min cab ride or 15min walk).

I was pleasantly surprised with Borovets as a ski resort and would recommend it for anyone who is on a budget or looking to go on their first ski trip and you would not go wrong by booking the Lion Hotel!

“ Most staff were friendly and helpful. Good facilities in the main, but no tea/coffee facilities in rooms and no sauna/jacuzzi.

“ Top Tip: The Blue Room in Borovets was a fantastic place to eat.

“ The hotel was very good. The staff were friendly and the food was excellent. It was very warm, sometimes a little too warm, but when the temperatures are so cold outside it's a necessity. I didn't use the pool and facilities but they looked very good. The hotel was clean and towels were changed daily. I would be happy to go back to stay in this hotel.

“ Top Tip: The hotel provides a free shuttle bus to the slopes every 20 mins. On Saturdays, however, most people are either leaving or arriving so the demand is not so great. If you need to get somewhere, make sure you tell them. If you would like to ski, Hunters Ski School is very good. The groups are much smaller than the bigger Boroski School and you get excellent attention. We only had 3 in our group. Unlike the 10/15 in some of the other groups we saw on the slopes.
