“ This hotel, it's staff and restaurants, are a cut above what you expect when travelling in China. I often use 5 star hotels, and very few compare with this one. The staff are happy to converse in English (unusual in China), they will do what is needed to keep guests happy, and their attitude is fantastic. I would vote this my favourite Intercontinental hotel, by a long way. The management and staff should be very proud of the environment they have created.

“ This hotel has been recently refurbished, and is now a very comfortable place to stay. The hotel's restaurants are very good, and the breakfast is perhaps the best to be had, in Shanghai. Service is good, and the staff friendly too. Beware the doormen- I wanted a taxi to the Maglev station, and between them there was a lot of nodding and smirking, and eventually a reluctant looking taxi driver pulled up. Two minutes into the journey, he said in Chinese, 'The Maglev is not working, where do you want'. A silly question, bearing in mind the Maglev only heads for the airport, and I had two cases in the trunk. Of course I went to the airport, called my wife who is Chinese, and she checked, and was told by the Maglev station management that there must have been some confusion, and that the trains were working. Nice hotel, but I will take a taxi from the roadside in future.
