Holiday Inn Shanghai Downtown

“ Perfect location for business traveller and leisure seekers. Very nice and clean hotel, with modern facilities. Staff are very courteous, speak fluent English (and of course PuTungHua) and always willing to help. I arrived at the wrong wing (Plaza wing) as opposed to the GreatWall wing where my reservation was held. Although it was only a 100 yard of walking distance, they provided a staff taking my luggage and drove me on a battery operated Golf cart to reach the Great Wall wing. I needed to catch the airport bus in the morning. The staff helped to carry my luggage and escorted me to the bus stop, loaded the luggage and bid me farewell. Wonderful, excellent standard of service that is very rare and hard to find in most part of the world nowadays.
The rooms are very spacious, simple but descent decoration. Clean bathroom, space tooth brushes (2), tooth paste, combs, shampoo, bath gel etc are all provided if you do forget to bring your own.
The bar is very well stocked, and staff are again very attentive even when I was only using the free voucher from the hotel establishment for a FREE drink.
The restaurant for breakfast (inclusive in the room rate of £62) is very well organised with plenty of rooms. Never felt to be rushed.
Had a very relaxing 18 hours before departing Shanghai.

“ Top Tip: Great base for getting around Shanghai, business or leisure.
The METRO/UNDERGROUND is just around the corner within 5 minutes walk, Airport bus stop is at the back of the hotel running at 20 minutes intervals and cost RMB22, YES, RMB22, one way to PUTONG airport. The Shanghai Railway station is only across the road, 5-10 minutes walking distance, and less than RMB10 to get there by taxi. There are at least 4 nice retaurants at a stone-throw distance. Shops, supermarkets, pharmacy (the Watsons), noodle shops, MacDonald (I think) are also within the plaza.
Main tourist attractions e.g. the Bund, Yue Gardens, is only 5 METRO Stops away, and the Putong will take 20 minutes by MTR costing no more than RMB4 one way.
