Built in 1815 to replace the original old thatched school dating back to 1651 the new school house accommodated 120 scholars for the local village children and gentry. The Old School House is now a small welcoming family bed and breakfast. We're situated in the vibrant village of Colinton only a few minutes' drive from the City Bypass A720. The extensive bus service available from Colinton includes Lothian buses route numbers 10 16 and 45 which run to the City Centre on a regular basis. Within the village there are three Restraurants two shops and two traditional Village Pubs. Unrestricted street parking is very close by. The City By pass is about 3 minutes drive and the Airport is about 15 minutes drive away. Alvar House is a small but very friendly guest house and your hosts are Alan and Avril who will go out of their way to make your stay in Edinburgh a memory to treasure. The house is a recently renovated large bungalow and all guest rooms are situated on the 1st floor level. You also have access to the sun trap conservatory and the residents lounge. The house is on a main bus route ( 24 hours a day) and all the events of the Festival can be reached in about 15-20 minutes.. The airport is about 15 minutes drive away and transfers are available by prior arrangement. Parking at the house is available and is free 24 hours a day. Please note we are not in anyway connected with any other establishment with similar name.

No 15 is a beautiful bed and breakfast in a wonderful residential suburb of edinburgh just a 10 minute bus ride or 25-30 minute walk to Princes Street and the castle. There is free wifi. There are lots of fabulous restaurants close by plus wonderful shops. The house has 3 gorgeous bedrooms all furnished with genuine antiques persian rugs and wonderful deep sprung mattresses ensuring a peaceful deep night's sleep. Parking is free all weekend and from 5.30pm to 8.30am each week day. There is totally free parking all week just 500 metres from the BandB. This is a family home with 3 young children who can be noisy in the mornings so ideally suited to those who want to experience life in a scottish household and want a lovely immaculately clean room and really friendly hosts. Continental breakfast is served to your room by breakfast tray on request for £5.00 per person. All credit card payments are subject to a small 2.5% charge.
