Mlini Hotel

“ The Hotel staff were very helpful.

“ Top Tip: The local beach was great for swimming in. Great playground set in pine trees so the children could keep cool in the heat of the day.

“ When we arrived at the hotel we were told our room numbers. My friend, Sue Hammond, had a single room on the first floor overlooking the sea. However, she had no bedside light, there was a pile of electric wires on the floor and the shower curtain was covered in mould and wasn't wide enough to stop the floor getting wet each time she had a shower. She did take a photo of the shower curtain and the wires.

My room was on the third floor - there was no one to help with the cases so I had to lug mine to the third floor as there was no lift and my room was hideous - oppressive with dark furniture and the only outlook was to a man sitting on his balcony smoking. We went back to reception to say how unhappy we were with the room and the receptionist said they had a French party coming in and couldn't change my room as they would complain if given that one. To cut a long story short she did change my room and I had a better one, albeit a double, but at least it had more light and I could see the sea from the window at the side of the hotel.

I thought the position of the hotel was excellent - that was the best thing about it.

I didn't think a lot of the breakfast really but it was only a 2 star and maybe that's what you get.

I've been reading that a lot of hotels were built in the communist times and Croatian hotels can be very basic - it would have been nice if we could even have made a cup of tea in our rooms but there were no facilities for that.

Also there was nowhere to sit outside in the hotel area. If you wanted to sit on the beach you had to pay for a sun bed and if you wanted to sit at the front you had to buy a drink. It would have been nice to have been able to sit without having to pay to sit down.

The photo of a bedroom on the internet was nothing like the room I had so I wonder who gets the better rooms or is it the luck of the draw!

I really liked Mlini - it was peaceful and relaxing and the hotel position was excellent but a few more home comforts would have been appreciated.

“ Top Tip: My best thing was that Mlini was so unspoilt - the Asterea wasn't really visible from the beach/front and the stream with the bridge and the little church on the beach were very picturesque.

Travel on buses was easy from Mlini. I can recommend Mljet which was so unspoilt and very green as the majority of the island is a National Park. We got the 7am bus from Cavtat which took us right into Dubrovnik where we picked up the boat.

Cavtat was also easy to get to from Mlini. We walked from the bus station and found a good outdoor eating place overlooking the sea. We continued walking around the peninsular and arrived at the harbour in Cavtat where we enjoyed a drink by the water before getting the bus back to Mlini - Cavtat too was great.

“ When my wife and I entered our room we were dissappointed because it was dark(even with the light on), small and somewhat tired looking.However it was very clean and during the week towels and bed linen were changed regularly.
The fact that we spent very little time in our room meant that our dissappointment was soon overcome and this was also helped by the friendliness of the hotel staff and a good breakfast.

“ Top Tip: Mlini is a very small resort and nightlife is based around a good meal in any of the five or so restaurants. The Mlinica virtually next to the hotel was our favourite.You could also just about fall out of bed and be on the beach, which was great.
A trip to Dubrovnik is a must and Cavtat is a nice place too.
A week was just right and for us a fortnight may have been a little too long in view of how quiet Mlini was.
All in all it was a week in paradise during which you couln't fail to be totally chilled.

“ The rooms in the mlini hotel are very variable - I believe some rooms are better but the room we were put in was terrible - extremely small and cramped and quite dark and dingy.

We were moved 100 metres up the road on the second day of our holiday to the 3* Asterea hotel, due to a problem with our booking - the Astarea was lovely, big airy rooms with a balcony with a great view - and still really close to the beach and restaurants etc. I'd reccomend the Asterea Hotel.

Mlini is a gorgeous area - beautiful blue seas, all the accomodation is very close to the sea, there are several beaches, a park with swings and see saw etc for kids and a choice of about 5 or 6 restaurants, a couple of bars and an excellent ice cream shop! It's a relatively quite location with a villagey feel, but in very easy travelling distance to Dubrovnik and Cavtat - buses from the main road (about 10 minutes walk uphill from the beach) cost about 10 kuna per person, (about £1.20 at the time we were there). A great location for a relaxing holiday, whilst still having the option to go and see some of the busier tourist towns nearby.
