The hotel and Island was very nice and looks fantastic, the rooms are modern and the staff are very friendy and helpfull. The pool however is freezing and frankly unusable for more than a brave dip and there is no other pool or jacuzi. The rooms are modern but perhaps allitle small and unpractical with no tea/coffee facilitys but was clean and comfortable. I would also only reccomend bed and breakfast as the evening meals are not good atall, not well thaught out, repetative and very salty, deserts are nice but lack variety (cream cakes every day). The local town of Hvar is very prety and there are quite a few restaurants and bars to choose from, mainly piza/pasta/fish type food. There are a fair few outdoor achtivitys to chose from and these are reasonalbe priced, but in off season there is not an awfull lot to do, there isnt much nightlife and its all very quiet alot of restaurants and entertainment are not open. The hotel in off season is also very quiet there is no entertainments and only 1 restaurant alot of the nearby bars and hotel facilitys are closed and atmosphere is non existant.

Overall i would reccomend the hotel and island in peak season although prices would be high. B&B and eat out in town.

Top Tip: HA - Havaer Adventure company in town is very good and friendly. Check out different bike hire locations, prices can vary for the same bikes. DONT FORGET YOU NEED TO GET A FERRY TRANSFER!!

Check-in date:

While the hotel was lovely, especially the pool area with swim-up bar, stunning sea views and and great food, the room was unfortunately a case of style over substance. It looked good but the leaky shower door, poorly designed sink, broken blinds, and lack of storage space did let the hotel down. While this wasn't enough to spoil the stay it caused an annoyance and I would think twice before staying here again. The odd-shaped toilet seats were strangley comfortable though!

Top Tip: Hula Hula Beach Bar is an absolute must for some sunset cocktails and a day-time visit to Carpe Diem beach is also highly recommended. Delicious food in Gariful on the harbour as well!

Check-in date:

The hotel is in a great location with a beautiful 10 min walk along the coast to the town. Walking the other way takes you out to a handful of great places where you can watch the sun go down. The staff were very helpful and polite and the hotel was kept in a great condition and was very clean. Breakfast was very substantial and gave you lots of choices. The restaurant had stunning views of the estuary with the other islands all in view. The pool provided a nice alternative to the beach and had a great cocktail bar. I would not hesitate to recommend the hotel and the island itself to anyone interested and will look forward to going back next year.

Top Tip: Dalmantino, Giaxa restaurants
Hula Hula bar and Falko bar for sundowners
Seagorent Yachts to hire a speed boat to island hop
Palmazina island you must visit Totos for lunch
Kiva Bar for 80s and 90s disco and great cocktails

Some adverse reviews had led to a degree of apprehension before our stay, but I must report that my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our ten-days as guests of the Amphora. The oft-reported plumbing problems aside, we found the hotel a great place to stay, in a perfect location. Although not officially boasting a sea view, our modern, clean room was big enough, well designed (if a little quirky), with a good-sized balcony overlooking the lovely garden surroundings of the pretty Hotel Croatia next door. Through the butterfly-rich cypress trees, the cerulean Adriatic sparkled. The buffet breakfast was a cornucopia, the pool and surroundings lovely. Staff were helpful and plentiful, without being obsequious, and we got a great exchange rate from reception. The delicious, hand-decorated birthday cake, thoughtfully provided, helped soften the blow of turning forty-six.

I understand that premium rooms can be costly, We'll be back.

Top Tip: Check out the Delfin Sports Bar, which is the first you'll encounter on your stroll into town. Great harbour views, lovely staff, cheaper and cooler than the more prestigious establishments.

'Cherry Mania' ice cream in a space shuttle cup from the gorgeous girls through the hole in the wall of the pizzeria in the main square.

You can hire a small motorboat for up to five people from £45 a day including fuel. Don't forget a mask & snorkel. Buzz around the mega yachts in the harbour, then head to Toto's restaurant on Palmizana island. (Your boat guy will mark the route on your map if you ask). Heavenly seafood in a gorgeous location, often served minutes after the local fishermen arrive with their catch, ice cold beers, and lovely local wine. Frankly, if you don't experience a warm feeling of utter contentment as you mop your plate with delicious, oven-fresh local crusty bread, you must have the cold, dead heart of a robot. If Darko is there, tell him 'Manchester' sent you and have whatever he recommends. Then tip him like a drunken Premier League footballer, and reflect that the world can be a magical place as the complimentary travarica melts your soul and girds your loins for your afternoon of adventure on the Adriatic. Seriously, people, what more do you want from a holiday, Beyonce and Jayzee to turn up? Oh, hi Beyonce! Safe, J, my man!
