Just returned from 5 days at the Melia Las Dunas. WE had 5 nights here as part of an independent holiday moving around Cuba. The hotel is massive with lovely grounds and a great beach with turquise waters. The room was huge, ver claen and well equipped. We found the food to be very good especially in the a la carte restaurants but you need to book these as soon as you can. The Romatique and oriental was especially good. The buffet at lunchtime in the beach restaurant was also good with a charcoal grill doing fresh whole fish. We found the two buffets at night to be ok but advise you go early. The drinks included were over and above any other inclusive we have been to with cocktails, imported spirits and decent wine especially the red.Generally the service was excellent.
On the negatives the mini bar was never really filled up until 7pm at night and it was hit and miss what you got. If you caught the man filling it up and gave a tip you could get extra! The small plastic cups at the beach and pool areas were rather impractical so take a flask of some sort and they will fill it up for you.
The pools were freezing. Unless you are on a package with transfers this is a difficult place to get to. We felt 5 nights was just right as you could be anywhere in the world and don't get a feel for the 'real' Cuba and it's people.
All in all the best all inclusive we have been to by far.
“ Top Tip: Don't miss seeing Havana.

We enjoyed our 4 day stay at Melia but it was not real Cuba. It was hard to believe that people stay there for the duration of their visit! The resort is at the end of a cause-way that Cubans aren't even allowed to cross and it's wrong that so many people don't get to see what this incredible country has to offer.
It's a good place to unwind though (apart from the mild stress caused by the mosquito infestation) - amazing beach, decent accommodation (but bad food)
“ Top Tip: The reception bar! Great waiters (ask for Luca's Daiquiri!!!)
