Staff were helpful and friendly. Many spoke English.
As written in other reviews, the star ratings are not as one would expect in another country: however, for Cuba the quality was good. The rooms were adequate but in need of decoration (which was underway during our stay). The bathroom fittings were period but functional. Plenty of hot water available but one needs to take adequate toiletries to suppliment those supplied.
The location is excellent. It is very close to the old city, casa de musica and a variety of restaurants. Daily tours leave from the hotel each morning.

You need to plan your excursions in advance to ensure availability.
Everything is paid in cash but a bureau de change is available at the hotel. It will give cash from a credit card.

The hotel was excellent as it was my daughters 40th birthday the day we arrived
In Havana so they upgraded her room and she had a big room with a view of the
Main square the hotel was a good location right in the heart of things as this is The 3rd time that I have been to Havana this is best hotel and I would go back Again and would fully recomend this hotel to any one esle
“ Top Tip: yes Remingways bar was only 2 blocks away and it was close to everything

Historic hotel but quite basic. Our 1st floor bedroom had no windows at all, like a dungeon. Breakfast was basic, rooftop bar is closed on Saturday and left luggage is charged extra. Good location though.
We only stayed 1 night here, for the other 3 nights we stayed in a BedinCuba Casa Particular (rented an on suite double room in a private house nearby (200 meters right in old Havana). It was just as good and half the price.
We also stayed in Varadero for 3 nights booked through TravelRepublic. It made a great 2 centre holiday (Havana city and Varadero beach. Took the Viazul bus (£7).
“ Top Tip: Floridita Bar - very historic, worth 1 drink for the experience - just across the square in front of the hotel. The famous La Bodega bar and restaurant - about 500 meters away - pre book your meal with the Cuba tourist rep in the hotel foyer for 15cuc (c£11 each), 2 good courses, bread and a choice of any drinks, you also jump the queue. live music all night.
