Los Frailes Boutique Hotel

“ Most of the rooms at Los Frailes are windowless. We arrived late at night and didn't fuss then, but realised in the morning that only the rooms at the front have windows. It wasn't a big issue and indeed the rooms were nice and quiet. There is a nice area outside the rooms with tables and chairs that make it pleasant to sit in.
The cleaning staff were lovely, but going through reception one was often not acknowledged. On our first night the barman/bellboy offered us drinks and then tried to offer us tours with his friend, cigars etc. He phoned our taxi on the last night and a friend arrived with one of the rustiest cars in Havana. It had no seatbelts, no window openers and he had dodgy "romantic" DVD's in the front.Not a journey for the faint hearted.And more expensive than the Cubataxis.
The hotel was clean and comfortable though old fashioned, but it did have a nice ambience. I would recommend it's position in the old town as it is ideal to see many of the sights.

“ Top Tip: Lots of good restaurants around here, most with live music. Beach only 20 minutes on the Havana Tour Bus.
Habana Viejo feels very safe at night as there is plenty of security and less hassle than Prado etc.
Havana is fabulous. It is interesting , though mainly for the people and building watching. The museums etc are basic, but give insight in o the past and present Cuba. Worth a visit now. I plan to revist in the future.

Be prepared that people will constantly try to speak to you or take you somewhere. Noone is aggressive or unpleasant if you refuse. Everyone needs money so be prepared for parting with it.
