Blau Varadero Hotel

“ Hotel very nice, clean, good staff. Could be anywhere in the world. All inclusive food becomes tiresome. Speciality restaurants really not inspiring with wine extra. Very windy on the beach in feb. Lovely gardens. 24 hour food amounts to pizza or toasted sarnies at the beach bar out of hours. Varadero town has nothing - you can take a little train there - but for what? Great for a poolside relaxing holiday.
2 hours (£80 taxi) to Havana - although the hotel was doing free nights excursions there - not quite sure why?

“ This was a nice hotel; although it looks a little bleak from the outside, it is actually very well appointed on the inside. The lobby has a very airey spacious feel with vines hanging down from the balconied ceilings. The staff are friendly and willing, the pool is large and the food is not at all bad by Cuban standards. The down side would be that the hotel is a 15CUC ride from Varadero Town where the bars, shops and restraunts are. When we were there, they only had 4 tennis rackets and 3 balls for 2 courts. Watersports on the beach were a token jesture (in fairness the weather was not good) and the nightly show was bordering on the pathetic. This could be an issue if you have children and are relying on that sort of thing for your evening entertainment. On the whole you could do a lot worse.

“ Top Tip: Book early to eat in one of the outside restraunts at the hotel where the standard of food and service is very good.

“ After backpacking through Cuba, it was good to land here for a while and to relax (and have food other than rice and beans!!!). However after a few days the tedium got to me, but this wasnt the hotels fault as they had thought of everything. I guess the lesson is if you enjoy the AI experience then this is definately the place for you as it is a great place (just not my buzz), if you like a bit of adventure then hit the road and don't drive past Santa Clara.

“ Arrived in Blau Varadero for the second week of our honeymoon and cant say enough positive things about the hotel. Firstly a big thank you to Roberto and all the staff for making this a memorable holiday.

Room - Excellent room on the seventh floor over looking the pool and beach. Lovely views of the sunrises and sunsets. Big room, bathroom and balcony which was cleaned everyday with fresh drinks in the fridge and lots of clean towels.

Food - 3 venues to eat in. Good buffet resturant with lots of choice at breakfast and dinner and yes it can get repeatitive but thats normal nothing to do with the standards of the food just how much you eat. pool resturant for lunch - the main dishes cooked outside are the best especially the rissoto and paella. Cuban resturant which the pool bar is changed into was lovely with excellent music and service. We went to the Palma Real for our last evening and it was outstanding>

Bars and drinks - Lobby bar is good for a cool drink in the afternoon and pre drinks for the shows. Piano bar is the best in the evenings for quieter and more relaxed drinks. The pool and beach bar were good for during the day.

Entertainment - the staff work very hard all day and night to but on a variety of things and there is something for everyone should you wish to join in. The shows in the evening are full of dance and the costumes were fab. We didnt go every night but enjoyed all that we did go to.

Beach - we went to the beach everyday and i am normally not a beach person but it was quieter than the pool and it was just amazing. The water is so clear and blue and the sand as white as snow. Lovely to walk on in the morning and at night for the sunsets. Picture postcard perfect.

Staff - the staff at the hotel are its best asset they cant do enough to ensure you have a brillant holiday and are very friendly and helpful all the time.


We loved our time in the Blau and would reccomend anyone to go there
