The Movenpick was rated as the best in Aswan and that's prob' correct. Staff were polite and helpful. Swimming pool looked good but opens late (0900) and shuts early (at dusk). The hotel is very spacious and seems to be popular with tourists (i.e. families) and with corporate types -seminars.
We would rate the room as excellent which was at ground level with patio doors. Interesting mezaine level bedroom with bathroom and w/c, made it feel spacious. A Nile view room is a must 'cos the otherside of the hotel is a buildings site with unfinished major construction sites!
The down-side was the restaurant. Advertised as having two eating places, the Italian (La Perla ?) was mysteriously shut and had been for some time and no-one wished to volunteer why. That left the large airport style buffet restaurant, with very average food at dinner and breakfast.
The hotel has a high rise architectural main feature which looks like a control tower. It's worth the elevator trip to the top for the views but DONT buy a cocktail. We met other visitors who also had similar experience to us (over priced mai tai and whisky sour) i.e. pleasant fruity drinks but which did not have any alcohol at all for £12 each!
“ Top Tip: Book room only and go to the East bank for dinner and breakfast.

“ Hotel is undergoing rennovation but this was not intrusive, pool was cool and the area around it is rather dated (hotel is probably 25+ years old). A peaceful retreat on the island from town with a regular boat service. The best breakfast we had in Egypt which sets you up for a hard day of sightseeing. Ask for rooms overlooking the West Bank - great views morning and evening and very peaceful - Staff very friendly and helpful - hotel rating takes into account where you are ie Egypt and travellers should not compare with say hotels in other parts of the world. It was comfortable and clean and until the Old Caterract Hotel (Sofitel) re-opens is certainly for us the No.1 choice
“ Top Tip: Book you felucca sail in town rather than immediately off the hotel's pier as you will get a much better price

Had a great Holiday. Service provided by Travel Republic from booking to recieving tickets without fault.
We had been to the hotel before and loved every minute of our two weeks. The Winter Palace has the best Gardens and Pool in Luxor. Staff very helpful and rooms great. Only let down this time was the food. Not up to usual standards.
There is some building work going on on site but this does not interfere with the holiday or the hotel at all.
I can only praise Travel Republic for our hoiliday experience and the Winter Palace for a Wonderful time
“ Top Tip: Visit Jems and Snobs for good food at low prices. Learn a few Arabic phrases. It helps and sends the hasslers away if you come at them in thier own language!!!
