Excellent food and service. Rooms kept extremely clean. Lovely resort. Just could do with better entertainment in the evenings, ie more bars.

Top Tip: Great restaurants in down town El Gouna. Alcohol quite expensive though!

Although we had a great holiday we did have a few things that were a bit rubbish! The walls between the rooms were far too thin and you could hear everything next door was upto, also the piano man in the resturaunt was SO BAD that it put us off being in there!
Food selection in the buffet was great with quite a weekly variety, one night to stay in for was beef wellington, one to avoid was italian night! Also really pleased to see the beach bar/resturant had a better selection of food this time around.

Top Tip: For a great night out of the resort try walking into downtown (5mins) and go to the White Elephant Thai and then onto a bedouin bar called Dunes, the manager and all the staff are very friendly and the atmosphere is great.
Also something that is not advertised alot but is available if requested in reception is dining around in other hotels that do all inclusive! So if you fancy a change you can eat in any 4* hotel for free or 5* for 3 euro suppliment.
You can also eat and drink in the sister hotel ocean view in the marina and peanuts bar for free, if you do this on a Thursday Loco Loco (formerly Papas) has a great party to go onto afterwards!

Very friendly staff - food was very good, would have liked more "local" choices but compared to other hotels it seemed like they did offer more Egyptian choices.

Top Tip: We attended a kite surfing course on the beach "Kite Surfing Club El Gouna" which was right next to the hotel's private beach and restaurant - with frequent free shuttle transfers. Very handy!

Check-in date:

We went for a week in April'2011 with my wife, 2yo son and grandma. And were all quite happy about the hotel. It had most things you would expect for this money, plus some extras. There are facilities for children, deep and shallow pools, direct access to the lagoon from the hotel and a free bus to another, "open sea" beach. Hotel staff is friendly and mostly useful. You do need to remember though that in Egypt in general for some services you are expected to pay a "tip", but since it is in the region of euro coins, it is not usually a problem (just have to have enough small egyptian notes at hand - 5EGP, 1EGP and smaller). Food was generally good, though again - a local peculiarity is that pork is skillfully avoided.

Top Tip: 1) There is a free bus/van going to the "open sea" beach every full hour (and back, of course). It is a convenient way of getting to kitesurfing stations on the same beach, just ask the driver to make a stop on the way and tip him a little. Or use a tuc-tuc if you want independence - it is only 5EGP per person.

2) That "open sea" beach has its own restaurant with food that is brought from the hotel, and if you have "all inclusive" option, you can have a lunch there for free. There is not a lot of choice (may become boring on the day 3 or 4), but quite tasty.

3) Downtown is very close to the hotel (3 min walk?), there is always something going on in the evenings if you get bored in the hotel itself.

4) Make sure you get an anti-insect spray on your first day from the housekeeper for a small tip. It may save you from mosquitoes and ants who visit any hotel irrespectively of their star number.

5) If you like to see coral reefs with a snorkel (a very beautiful thing to see!), you have two options: go for an expensive trip with an instructor on a shaky boat (30min ride can easily upset most stomachs) or just bring/buy a snorkel and do it yourself from the long pier on Zeituna beach. There is an interruption in the middle of the pier, which you may have to cover by swimming (5m?), and then it continues.
NB: Only a few models of cameras will work under water without a special waterproof casing.

6) Beach towels are given separately from the room towels, and can be swapped separately as well by the "beach boy" near one of the pools. You can then grab it and take with you to any of the public beaches. But the beach boy may not be near the pool when you come back in the evening. Drying it on the balcony is an option, but beware the anti-insect gassing procession every evening at 6pm. When you hear that strange noise around 6pm (you can hear it anywhere in El Gouna, it is unmistakable) just rush to your balcony, grab everything hanging there, bring it indoors AND CLOSE THE BALCONY DOOR. You can bring it all out after the air is clear again.

7) If you use internal telephones (for example, to call your kitesurfing or diving station to confirm weather/plans) be prepared that the direct "66" prefix may not work from your room. I don't know whether this is specific to this hotel or not, but sometimes it just doesn't dial directly. Don't worry: just dial 0, wait for an operator, tell him the number you want to call and he will connect you. Sounds like previous century, but it works, and for free :)

The Resort features 268 rooms overlooking the Lagoon and Golf course. The 24h reception helps in any concern and the 3 restaurants and 4 bars leave no wish open. It provides 2 swimming pools and 3 beaches give you space to relax. Wlan Internet in the Lobby and DSL Internet in the rooms are available.

Stayed at Taba last year at the Hyatt, and the Steigenberger is not up to that standard and certainly not 5 star.Staff are not very pleasant, and rooms vary considerably.

Great hotel, just what I have come to expect from Three corners, friendly staff who will do their very best to accomodate your every need. Good food, plenty of choice and you could eat all day long if you wanted to.

Moevenpick Resort & Spa El Gouna is directly on the Red Sea, blending harmoniously with the natural environment set in luscious gardens. This spacious resort in El Gouna, offers 3 km of beachfront, tranquil lagoons and offers extensive facilities to cater any guest need: 8 restaurants and bars, 4 swimming pools, health club, kids club, diving, kitesurfing, Angsana Spa and a nearby golf course. All rooms are spacious, well equipped and tastefully decorated. With balcony or terrace, they offer attractive views on the lagoon or the garden. Individually controlled air conditioning/heating units, satellite TV, telephone, high speed internet access and bathrooms with shower and hairdryer.

This was our second stay at the Movenpick and it lived up to all expectations. Through your good offices we requested that our room should be in a particular 'group' and indeed this is what we got. The staff at this hotel, from gardeners to senior management, were all very friendly and helpful - some of the best found anywhere in our view.
