I was really impressed with Rantapuisto Hotel, and loved staying there. The room had a wonderful view of the forest with the sea behind, and the room itself had character, was clean, spacious and very comfortable (the beds were great!) Staff were very friendly, helpful and polite, and the hot buffet breakfast had a fantastic range of food: porridge, about eight different types of cereal, eggs, sausages, bread, cucumber, tomatoes... a lot, basically!
Although I didn't have time to try the sauna, it was great knowing that it was an option, and it's right by the lake in order to have the full, authentic Finnish experience of having a dip straight after.
Although perhaps not everyone would like to be so out of town, I didn't find the travel into the centre of Helsinki bad at all - the metro (20 minutes from the centre to Rastila) was fast and efficient, and then we chose to walk from the metro station to the hotel, around 15 minutes. I personally loved the fact that it was out of town anyway, because it gave us the chance to escape the hustle and bustle of city living which we have back in the UK, and really enjoy what is arguably one of Finland's greatest attractions: its lakes and forests.
All in all, a fantastic hotel, great value, in a perfect location and not too far from town either. I would definitely recommend this for anyone who enjoys beautiful settings, being close to nature and a chance to relax.
“ Top Tip: It's definitely worth walking down to the lakeside within the hotel's grounds, and also to have a dip in (although we didn't get time to). Although I wouldn't exactly call it a beach, as it's very small, it's a perfect place to swim, I would say.

“ The hotel was very nice. Room was excellent with great view of the seafront. Buffet breakfast had a great selection. Location was good as it gave you a different side to Helsinki as it didn't feel like we were in the city. It was quiet and a nice place to relax and chill out. Took only 20 minutes to get by the metro into the busy centre and there were night buses that stop close by for when we stayed out late.
