Univers Hotel

“ We had a nice holiday, the hotel was OK, very central location. The room was
dissappointing, I have booked a superior room, which turned out to be very basic, no tea and coffee making facilities, we complained 4 times, the manager
promised us a bottle of wine and a better room, but it was only a promise, on
the top of all this the lift broke down and we had to walk down from the 4th floor
( we are not young ).
We loved Nice, we will be back, but not in the same hotel....

“ Top Tip: Excellent value public transport throughout the area, for 1 euro
you can go as far as Menton on bus no 100.

“ Great welcome at checkin, checkout was easy and the concierge happily kept our bags until 5pm. Breakfast was OK but could have been improved with real fruit being offered instead of tinned fruit salad. Good coffee though.

Our room was fairly basic, the bathroom was rather tired but we had fresh towels every day. The downside was that the lock on the safe didn't work so we had to lock valuables away in our suitcases and there was a nasty smell from the basin drain.

This hotel though is perfectly located for the beach, the old town, the tramline and the railway station. Restaurants are within a stone's throw and so is Galerie Lafayette for general shopping.

“ Top Tip: Try Bocaccio on rue Massena, about 2mins walk from the hotel. It serves the most amazing seafood platter of whelks, cockles, mussels and oysters. Not cheap at 38Euro but fabulous for a special treat.

“ The best thing about the hotel is that it's in the heart of everything. Just off Massena square. 5 minutes from the beach, shops and reastaurants. The old town is also a 5 minute walk. Buses to airport and other resorts are also close by. The hotel itself was good as well. Our room was spacious and clean. Bathroom in very good condition and clean. Breakfast was typical continental more than adequate for us. The dining room was nothing special but that didn't bother us. There was one thing though that was very unpleasant and that was a bad smoke and musty smell in the corridor outside our room. We had to hold our breadth to go past. There was no smell anywhere else in the room or hotel. That was the only thing.

“ Top Tip: Best place on the beach was "Opera plage". Best place for a coffee snack or dinner on the promenade "L'Eden". Try the Grill restaurants on the Massena square they were good too.
