Positives:

1. Very central to many tourist attractions.

2. Excellent Breakfast provided in the restaurant with lots of variety.

3. Very friendly staff.

4. Swift check in and check out

Negatives:

1. I requested a room with a view. I received a room with no view other than very dismal roof tops.

2. The room I was allocated was very far from the lifts and needed 3 sets of lifts to access it or the reception when leaving the hotel. This was tiring and would have been a big issue for anyone elderly or challenged physically.

3. The package I selected was for breakfast over 3 days. However as my last day required checkout for a very early flight at a time that the restaurant was closed, I requested that I take my breakfast on my first day of arrival as I checked in at breakfast time. The hotel would not extend this flexibility and instead offered me room service at 6am on my last day with a very limited range of croissants and coffee alone. In addition I was charged an additional 16 Euros for adding a cheese plate to my room service!

4. The room I selected was advertised with Tea and Coffee making facilities, however there were none and none were provided as a result of requesting this.

5. The bedroom was extremely dark with limited lighting during the night and day.

6. Having visited a Bordeaux attraction, I phoned the Hotel concierge to arrange a cab to bring me back to the hotel. Having waited over an hour and several phone calls later to the Hotel asking for a progress on my cab, I returned by using the tram service.

7. Ordering a medium steak for room service was delivered extremely rare and raw. In requesting room service to re-cook the steak, it was re-delivered 20 minutes later just as rare but reduced in size as a result of being trimmed! Needless to say it was inedible at a cost of 38 Euros!

8. The gym, swimming pool and recreational facilities advertised were not free! An additional 60 Euros was requested to use any of these facilities as a total charge! I have never experienced this before in any hotel!

9. The food and drinks served at the hotel were extremely pricey.

Check-in date:

A very central hotel. Perfect position. Good service. The room was tastefully decorated and the beds were very comfortable. However the room was quite small despite being a 'junior suite'. The lighting in the room was poor. The hotel has a lovely spa but charges to use it. Everything in the hotel was very expensive.

Top Tip: The best place to eat is Le Gabriel in Place de la Bourse. The Brasserie food is excellent and good value.

Check-in date:

Excellent, beautifully appointed hotel with very helpful staff. Great location. The decor of the rooms is opulent, slightly OTT. The breakfast is amazing!

Top Tip: Le Grill Bordelais, 12 rue des Piliers Tutelle is an excellent family run restaurant. Welcoming and friendly. Mouthwatering grilled meats, especially the lamb. Highly recommended. Very good choice of reasonably priced wines. We went there two out of the three nights we stayed in Bordeaux. A real find.

Check-in date:

Great location in the centre of everything and easy to get to with the airport shuttle bus or trams stopping just by the hotel. Breakfast was very good and all the staff are very amiable and helpfull. Slightly expensive once in the hotel and it's restaurants/bars but that is only to be expected in a hotel like this. I am not sure we would have stayed there without the discounted breakfast inclusive price from travel republic. One definite place to avoid would be the recently opened 'spa' which cost 60euros per couple, and when we decided to have a relaxing day there, the gents changing rooms were closed, the hamman was broken and the roof terrace and jacuzzi unavailable as it was 'raining' albeit sporadically. So just the pool and sauna available. The hotel redeemed itself by cancelling the charge when we complained at check out even though the spa manager had just dismissed our queries as to why we weren't told of the closures before agreeing to pay. Slightly small rooms with no opening windows.
