“ This hotel certainly has the wow factor, was very good value for money and perfect for a relaxing holiday. The only drawback from my point of view was its remote location, although there were always taxis available. There was a definite shortage of sunbeds, however.

“ After over 20 years of travel and with hotels never quite living up to the expectations created by the brochure/website at last one that is truly as good, if not better! From the first moment we arrived and were greeted by very friendly staff and opulent suroundings, to being escorted to our superb room with private decking/pool and then into the first of three restaurants the standards never failed to impress. 5+ star luxury throughout but coupled with a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere often missing from other hotels at this level. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for ultimate relaxation in Crete but at a surprisingly affordible price tag. We will certainly return. With special offers and a free half board upgrade we paid little more than the cost of many 3-4 star alternatives. Negatives? Only if you try very hard to find them but a car or scooters well worth having (we chose scooters delivered to the hotel and had great fun) as the hotel is several kms from the closest villages or towns. The pools are cold and if that is an issue and you don't fancy the crystal clear and much warmer sea you need to pay extra for pool heating. The whole complex is set into the side of a hill and whilst the funicular railway takes you from each level and is great fun there are long corridoors and steps that could be a problem for the very elderly, infirm or with pushchairs.

Top Tip:
Hire scooters (Lampros Softsis) for 90 euros a week delivered and collected and explore the coast in both directions plus go over the mountain to the South Coast.
Sample the many and varied Tavernas for lunch if you can face more food after the buffet breakfast at the hotel.
Definately take the 12 euro 4 hour boat trip from Agios Nikolaos (Thenia?) with an hour at Spinalonga and 30 minutes swimming off the boat on the way home. Who needs a private yacht!!
