You’ll find the family-run Astra Village Apartments less than two kilometres from Hersonissos’ marina, in the little village of Koutouloufari. As settings go, this one takes some beating. The village’s cobbled streets and sugar-cube buildings are protected, so the tiny tavernas and shops have held on to their old-world charm.

Design-wise, this pocket-sized complex certainly fits in with its surroundings. It was built in the Minoan style with lots of sloping walls, multi-level rooftops and zig-zagging staircases clustered around a central courtyard. Taking centre-stage are two pool areas. They’re a real sun-trap with more than enough of sunbeds, plus a generous freckling of parasols to give you a bit of shade.

Inside the apartments, the designers have gone for an unmistakably Greek look. Whitewashed walls come with matching white-tiled floors, while the woodwork and furniture are Greek flag-blue. They come with all the accoutrements you’d expect, such as satellite TVs and air-conditioning, as well as fully-equipped kitchenettes and balconies with sea or mountain views.

There are a few nice extras here, too. There’s a children’s play area complete with swings and a slide. The poolside bar does a mean line in cocktails and ice-creams. And last but not least, an open-sided café comes with a menu featuring everything from English breakfasts to waffles.

This is our fifth visit to these apartments and we are always made very welcome.

These apartments are close to all tavernas and is in the centre of Koutouloufari.
The studios and apartments are cleaned every day. If you require a relaxing holiday then this is for you.

Top Tip: We ate mainly at the Esperos Restaurant which is right next door. Another good place to eat is Mezes which is just a couple of doors away from the Astra Village.

Downside are the pools which are too small for a swim. Howver, the hotel is immaculately clean and the owners are very obliging - we couldnt fault them or the rooms. the area has loads of eateries and is quite a pretty setting. We would go back.

Top Tip: Mezze restaurant near to appts was very good for food and friendliness.

Excellent location, near to all tavernas, shops etc. Basic accommodation, typically Greek and spotlessly clean with maids in every day. Towels changed three times and bedding once in the one week stay. We had sea view room which was lovely,
some other rooms may not have a very good outlook. All staff very friendly and helpfull. Very enjoyable stay, would go back.

Helpful staff, clean and well looked after accommodation.
Wlak to the beach was fine for myself, but less mobile people would find it a struggle.
Quiet buzz provided in the evenings, centred around tavernas.

Very clean both apartment and public areas. All staff very friendly and helpful and good fun in the bar at nights, although no entertainment there was a good mix of background music and banter. The pool bar was never open during our stay but this was not a problem as we were able to get drinks from the bar and take them to the pool or take our own. Plenty sunbeds and the pools were never too busy.

Top Tip: lots of restaurants in the village, ate out all the time and never had a bad meal. The restaurant to the left as you leave Astra Village was excellent and although they did not ply you with free raki they were very reasonable and had an offer for children under 11 to eat free. It is a climb back up from the beach and the beach at Stallis is nicer and easy to get to on the local bus.
