Nestled in the picturesque surroundings of Matala, along the seashores of Crete. The family run Orama hotel is situated 3 minutes walk to the centre of Matala and to the beach. Besides the beach, there are many other activities such as hiking, bike riding and horse riding along the beach. Within 30 minutes walking distance the beach of “red sand” can be reached, a place only accessible by foot or by boat. The hotel facilities and services include: 24 hours reception, bar, dining area where breakfast is served, as well as a variety of traditional Cretan dishes; TV room, outdoor pool with children´s section, solarium with sun beds and sun shades, as well as an outdoor parking. “ We enjoyed it thoroughly. The hotel is relatively close to Matala but in nice countryside. Unfortunately due to family illness the bar could not be open but the proprietor was very hospitable and apologetic.

We would go again.

It is NOT a "Here We Go" sort of place

Sunsets are fantastic over the bay.

“ Top Tip: Red Beach, Phaistos Minoan palace, the market at Mires and plenty of good tavernas in and around Matala.

Buy the Rough Guide to Crete from Amazon. We found it invaluable and the Rough Guide Map though somewhat anticipatory regarding the motorway!
