Havania Apartments

“ The apartmenta were really good, 2 minutes from bed to swimming, with plenty of space for sunbathing. All the staff were helpful, and we enjoyed breakfast every day, and sometimes lunched there as well.
However they could do with updating the pool table, and providing just a little bit more parking.
Apart from that- hightly recommended

“ Top Tip: Nothing to add to the above, but if you are looking to buy souvenirs and a getting a brief introduction to the Cretan way of life , the Olive Farm a few minutes walk down the road is excellent value.
And don,t miss the semi submersible in Ag Nik- we saw a turtle1

“ Clean but basic. Had good kitchen equipment including fridge, cooker, grill and all utensils, cutlery, plates, glasses mugs etc in the room which was very handy. We stayed on the ground floor and didn't have a particularly good view. Clean swimming pool and outside areas with great views of the sea. Most of the staff we friendly and helpful although the owner made us feel like we were imposing if we asked for anything.
When we arrived we were a bit disappointed to find twin beds instead of a double. We asked if we could change to a double if any became available but the owner didn't seem that bothered about really trying to help. We just pushed the beds together which was ok but not ideal.

Did not order food there so can't say how good it was. We went in September and it was rather quiet with a mostly older crowd. Nearest beach was Havania, a very short walk away but although convenient, not the best beach around. Its a bit of a trek to get anywhere from there. The nearest open shop was 20 mins walk away opposite the Mirabello Hotel which had all the food and essentials you need. A lot of the bars and restaurants nearby seemed very empty.

Great holiday though. Very relaxing, beaches are very clean as are the towns. Great seafood everywhere. Mostly everything was reasonable priced so would be good on a budget.

“ Top Tip: There are bus stops on the road outside the apartments but they only run every hour and half although they are very cheap ( 1.40 euro I think). Go to Elounda. The beach is great, very clean, with good amenties. Very chilled out there. Nice bars and restaurants. Go the opposite direction to Agios Nikolaos. A larger town, great bars and places to eat for all ages. Lovely views of the marina and a nice little beach. Good restaurants around the lake with friendly staff.
The Royal Galley ( I think it's called) is a bar half way between the apartments and Agios Nikalous. A bit of a walk but has more life in it than nearer bars. Nice food, and cocktails. Pool table is free to customers. Good atmosphere.
Buses are every 2 hours to Plaka. To be honest there is nothing there. The beaches are just made of very big stones (does not look comfortable) and the place is pretty tiny. You can see Spinalonga from there and a boat trip there is about 8 euros. If you want to walk round empty buildings with very little information about what they were and see abandoned coffee machines and fire extinguishers left over from recent builders, go to Spinalonga.

We got a coach tranfer which was a big mistake as it when to almost every hotel in crete and toook 3 hours - very exhausting. Would recommend a private transfer.

If you need a taxi just ask at reception. It arrived in less than 5 mins. 12 euros to Elounda and 7 to Agios nikalous. Its very easy to get a taxi which is good as the last buses stop at about 7.30pm.

In hindsight the best thing to do would have been to hire a moped or car as everything is quite spaced out.
