I ve stayed at the hotel on 2 occations and have stayed at the resort 3 times. The hotel is more like a 2 star, rooms are clean and bedding and towels changed twice a week.
The food is basic and a bit repetative,(so take a few extra euros so you can eat out) however it was tasty and cooked well, we tended to eat out every other day or so. Bali is very hilly and were ever you are in the Sofia Mythos there will be plenty of steps to climb or decend os bare this in mind when your booking. I will be returning to Bali next year but will be staying at some fantastic rooms that we found
“
Top Tip:
There are 4 beaches in Bali all are good some busier than others, all are busy at weekends when the locals are off. The harbour area and beach is great for families and is low key at nights with some nice tavernas. Try to avoid driving on Sundays as its mad were ever you go
There is one cash machine in Bali but it will not accept security chipped cards (yes it s a very old machine) and the money exchange at happy day car rental will not accept travels checks euro or sterling because the banks charge them to much commission (they will cange bank notes) so you may have to go to the bank 12 miles away in Perama

Staff lovely, but owners rude, abrupt and downright hostile at times, certainly not helpful to other guests (maybe 'cos end of season, but no excuse for accusations and poor service)
Food repetitive, lighting inadequate (someone fell on the steps) and at least one other guest had no hot water all week. Couple of older lecherous local men to avoid if you're a single female traveller - luckily there were at least five women staying there who were holidaying alone.
Location lovely, if you want small, picturesque and quiet (out of season) resort with good beaches and small choice of bars and taverna's. Roads / paths extremely steep - anyone with walking difficulties should avoid - completely unsuitable. 25 minute walk to main road with good connections to hourly buses to Rethymnon, Chania and Heraklion if you fancy somewhere more lively.
In summary would recommend Bali, but if I return would stay elsewhere.
“ Top Tip: Evita beach was my favourite - but small and expect very crowded in season. Not many bars and tavernas still open when I arrived and when I left only one bar and one taverna still open - so don't expect much choice end of season - plus all organised tours and excursions had finished, but still able to travel by public transport thanks to good bus links.

“ Booked the Sofia Mythos but didn't actaully stay there. On arrival we were met by a guy who knew nothing about the booking or the hotel we were in. He made several phone calls and said someone was coming to met us. He did and walked us 200 metres away from the hotel we had booked to the steepest road I have ever seen in my life. He said our room was at the top of what I can only call a concrete raod put directly on the side of a mountain. By the time my partner and I had reached the top neither of us could talk. I asked the guy if there was a room lower down the slope and he said he would ask in the morning. We were moved from room 61 of the Athina Hotel to room 11. Why was it the Athina and not the Sofia Mythos as booked is a complete mystery. We used the hotel just to sleep because we have been to Bali before and have experienced hotel food so meals were taken at our usual places. The owner or manager of the Sofia Mythos has a very direct way of speaking to people which upset a number of guests.
“ Top Tip: Porto Paradiso Bar and Pizzeria - Fantastic

“ Why was one of the party placed in a completely different hotel from the two other members of the booking. As a young girl on her own it seemed a good idea to make sure she was close to them. I asked the owner and he just shrugged his shoulders and said "not enough rooms".
“ Top Tip: Porto Paradiso Bar and Pizzeria - absolutely fantastic
