This is the 2nd time we've stayed at the Maleme Mare, we went 4 years ago with Kosmar, of course they went bust last year so we booked with travel Republic this time. These are nice apartments situated just across the road from the shingle beach, with sea views from every room. They are above the usual standard for reasonably priced apartments, the usual two ringed hob and basic kitchen equipment, no kettle or toaster but very clean, the cleaners came in every day and towels and linen were changed regularly. The staff were all very pleasant, made conversation when they could. There was only one other English couple apart from us as there are no UK travel companies travelling there at present, seemed to be mainly Scandinavian or Russian but this wasn't a problem.
They area of Maleme is very quiet, there are a few tavernas and a couple of supermarkets so if you want nightlife you won't find it here, but a short taxi or bus ride away is Platanias which is very busy and Chania is about 16km away. We had a lovely week and would certainly stay at Maleme Mare again.

Top Tip:
Visit Chania, it's a lovely town with a lovely harbour. Lots of restaurants on the front, a bit more expensive but lovely views, but venture into the back streets behind the harbour as there are some lovely courtyard restaurants.
If you're into history visit the Roman town of Aptera near Souda Bay, very interesting and free to get in.
