Unless all inclusive and don't want to step out of the hotel grounds - a car is a must - which is OK with us because we always hire a car for the duration of our holiday. And although the hotel is alittle isolated and not to near the beach there is a headland walk of aorund 20 minutes to the beach - but crete is very windy and it can feel a lttle perilous. % minutes in the car.
Very few English people stay here - we were the only English guests. Again not aproblem for us but may not suit everyone. the majority of the staff understnad and speak good english.

Top Tip:
Damnoni beach 5 minutes drive - a lovely beach with a great Tavrna.don't use the 'Kantina" (caterinjg Van) complete rip-off!! Taverna sells rustic and traditonal greek food and is very reasonable. Lamon hotel & Taverna great for breakfast if get up late. approx 3 euros for continental style brekfast served until 12 noon.
Plakias, the local village is low-key, just lively enough and with some lovely beach side tavernas. Depite the strong Euro - an evening meal for three (inc. calamari, sardines etc)with half a carafe of local wine & beer approx 23-25 euros. Exchange service available in the the village - profesional and friendly staff. Car rental also if required.

“ Hotel accommodation was good. The rest would be even better if they sacked certain members of staff. I think we had the equivalent of Basil Fawlty behind the main bar- as we had paid for all inclusive that was what we expected; however Basil had other ideas and would only allow us 2 drinks at a time which was a bit awkward as we were a party of 3! He was telling grown men to go away from the bar and come back in 10 mins because in his opinion they had been to the bar too many times! We had to queue at the bar for up to 30 mins to be served and then we were greeted with a scowl. The food needs vast improvement, meat was undercooked. The complex itself was really lovely and could be turned into a holiday paradise, but a lot of work on customer service needs to be achieved first. As for the gym and jacuzzi well they were totally out of bounds. We actually had too see the funny side of the situation otherwise the holiday would have been totally ruined.
“ Top Tip: Car hire is a must at this location. Prevali is worth a visit but I suggest you take the boat trip from Plakias; unless you have suicidal tendencies and go by road via the adventure route(dirt road) I'm still taking the vallium!!
