Maria Sissi Apartments

“ Lovely apartments 5 minutes walk from the heart of the village. Clean, comfortable accomodation - we stayed in a self catering studio which had a fridge, kettle, 2 rings, and enough cookware/crockery/cutlery if you're planning on doing your own cooking (although with the wealth of great restaurants in Sissi we didn't bother!). We were at the back of the building and our balcony had beautiful plants and shrubbery at either side, which had the added bonus of being completely private! The only slight issue we would have is the fact that there's always football on the big screen in the bar, but there's obviously a demand for that from the majority of the guests! Can definitely recommend Sissi and the Maria Apartments for a relaxing holiday.

“ Top Tip: If you turn left out of the apartments the restaurant Neromilos is a few minutes walk, can't recommend this place enough! It had a real Greek village feel to it, with stunning food at extremely good value. We sat in the beautiful courtyard with strings of lights through the lime trees, surrounded by Cretan families. Great food, great service.

“ Very basic room but clean. Not enough cutlery 2 x knives 1 x fork, only 1 large pan. Suppose you get what you pay for. All the staff are very friendly and helpful, nothing is too much trouble. If possible ask to be in the new block. Plenty of sun beds to go around anytime of the day. All in all a very enjoyable week.

“ The hotel was everything that we had read on the reviews. It was basic and fairly small but very clean but it was a nice place to stay. The only problem we had was the shower in our room was not very good and a dripping air conditioning unit. It was quiet, comfortable and felt safe. we enjoyed our stay there.

“ Top Tip: The Sissi area was very nice with lots of Tavernas which were all a bit samey food wise. Mamma Mias and Pink Flamingo were really nice and offered the only real difference from the Tavernas. Jolly Roger was a really nice bar to have a drink and watch the sun go down. Heminways was also a nice bar overlooking the small harbour. Bufos beach is the only really nice beach in Sissi but it is a bit of a trek over the rocks. Sissi is a lovely place to go to though.

“ We stayed there last year and were so pleased with the place that we had to book again. We will probably book again next year. The accomodation is basic but clean. The room was cleaned every day apart form Sunday and the sheets and towels changed twice/three times a week - I didn't notice because it was always clean. The pool, the poolside and poolside bar were always cleaned thoroughly every evening, the pool water was always clean and the pool tiles mopped and the pool rim was hand cleaned every night. The poolside bar served simple and tasty snakcs and the full breakfast was well worth the money. The staff are the most pleasant you could wish to meet. It is a small family run business and you get to feel part of the family. There is a wonderful small open air restaurant - Neromylos - nearby about three hundred yards away - great food and great prices and live local musicians playing there once a week. Sissi is a lovely spot, not in your face at all, with many locals n the small harbour beach as well as us foreigners! I recommend it for those who do not want loud surroundings with loutish drunken behaviour!

“ Top Tip: 'Neromylos' Restaurant. Pori Restaurant on seashore is also very good. Beaches between Hersonissous and Heraklion are great, especially from Kokkini Hani westwards. 'White Lion' pub/restaurant in Hersonissous is very friendly atmosphere.
