Villa Valvis Hotel

“ Terrific holiday made most enjoyable with our stay at Villa Valvis - wonderfully clean, friendly and relaxed atmosphere - rooms, pool and whole hotel kept spotless and attractive. Our thanks to Marina for her hospitality and Maria for the room cleaning which was always efficient, tidy and a clever arrangement of towels - different every day. The hotel is a short walk from beach and centre of Perissa yet nice and quiet so no disturbed sleep. Turn left out of the hotel 2 minutes walk to the main road through the centre of Perissa for buses, good restaurants, travel agents, quad bike hire, supermarket and the delicious bakery! Turn right 5 mins walk for the beach road and more restaurants. My partner and I were delighted by our stay at this hotel and would recommend it without reservation. We would stay here again!

“ Top Tip: Take a walk through town and check out the restaurants offering a meal deal for two, these are great value. On the Perissa main road opposite Villa Valvis turning is a great friendly quad bike hire, I think its called Mikes Bikes. Walk down the main road well into the town and look for a restaurant with tables in an alley on the right with loads of beautiiful bouganvillea blossom hanging. Great meals for good price.

“ We stayed at the Villa Valvis for the first 2 weeks in August 2011. We were initially disappointed to find that we had booked a basic room rather than a studio - not sure how that happened so - we didn't have the kitchen facilities we expected. However, we bought a small kettle, bowls, spoons cups etc from the Coop Supermarket and managed quite well. We also put bin liners at the window in the door as a blackout - worked pretty well. The room was not huge but did have the all important air conditioning and a fridge. There was nowhere for drying washing/beach towells and because it was very windy at times (the Meltemi wind is pretty strong that time of year!) we couldn't leave them on the balcony. Balconies more or less communal but ok. Shower room typically very small - tight fit - not suitable for the larger individual! However, there was hot water day and night and the shower was quite powerful. Not one fitted on the wall - just the hand-held type. The staff were very helpful and the whole place was spotlessly clean.

“ Top Tip: Our favourite restaurant was the Acropolis - great food, lovely setting and very pleasant staff. Tranquilo was good for pre and post dinner drinks along the front. We also really liked Atlas - just around the corner from Villa Valvis on the main road. Further along the main road we found Dorian's which was just lovely for drinks at any time - loved it! If you turn right at the top of the road you come to a much busier area. Lots of music bars and traffic and activity on the beach - Great for the youngsters! The bus stop is really close to the hotel and takes you into Thira in 20 mins for 2.20 euros. Fantastic!
Umbrellas + 2 beds on the beach for 5 euros or free if you use the restaurant they belong to. Full service brought to you on the beach - lovely. The sand is more grey than black and more gravel than sand which is excellent in the wind. The sea is a bit tricky to get into due to a large shelf of slippery rock at the edge and most of the way in but aqua shoes are available in the local shops for about 7 euros and worth every penny. The only downside were the hawkers on the beach selling sunglasses, bags, dresses, jewellery etc not to mention the many offers of massage or henna tattoo. We were offered these services about 20 - 30 times a day.

“ Great place to stay, close to the beach, supermarkets, cash machine, 24-hour bakery.
Basic but immaculately clean, room was cleaned every day and fresh towels.
Nice pool, sunbeds and pool bar.

“ Top Tip: Atlas Bar - the BEST in Perissa, the BEST (albeit mad) barman in Perissa!
Tranquilo on the beach - lovely chilled bar with a superb, refreshingly different menu of salads and wraps + sunbeds on the beach with waiter service.
Ntomanini Restaurant on the front - looks up-market and expensive, but the food is reasonably priced and they have a top-notch take on traditional Greek cuisine.

“ Amazing hotel. Very friendly and helpful owner. Brilliant bakery just around the corner. Would highly recommend.

There is a quad bike (14euro a day) and motor bike (10euro a day) hire shop just across the street, so that you can drive up to the main town of Fira and see the Caldera (30 mins on the bike).
