Danubius Hotel Astoria

“ We stayed 4 nights B & B.
Room 315 was comfortable and quiet if a little small, but this was probably our fault as we specified a shower rather than bath/shower. 3rd floor is designated no smoking, but have since been told that there is now a National indoor smoking ban. The hotel itself is beautiful. It was a pleasure to enter the reception and dining areas.
Breakfast was unusual! Full continental selection, with additional hot buffet - of liver and bacon, ratatouille, and roast chicken legs alongside the sausage and scrambled eggs. "Full English" not on display, but note on tables advises of its availability - just ask the waiter. Fruit juices powdered as seems to be the norm these days, but fresh orange segments available.
Tea ok, coffee superb.
Leaving the hotel on foot towards the river, you have a 5 minute walk to Elizabeth Bridge, and at that point are right at the middle of the shopping street - Vaci Utca. (Utca and Ut both seem to mean street)
Not in Euro zone, but most shops and restaurants are quoting prices in HUF and Euro.
Loads of places to change money, rates better that in UK.
It is not an expensive city
The Market Hall (right out of hotel, and 7 minutes on foot, is fabulous. Open 6 days a week until about 6.00. If you want fast food, the cafes upstairs look superb. There are some fabulous local pub / restaurants in the area. Portions are huge, and the beer is superb. Draher on draught has to be experienced. My wife, a very occasional beer drinker, loved it.
People are helpful and friendly. Felt safe at all times, English widely understood

“ Top Tip: Take advantage of the red/yellow city tour. 4500 HUF (about £13) gets you 2 different routes around the city, and a 1 hour cruise up to Danube. Ticket is valid that day and all next and takes in all important sites. The routes link, so it is possible to get off a bus and straight onto the boat. Go all around first, then next day use it like a taxi service.

“ There was only one fault with this hotel and that was when we rang for room service we were told that they were to busy in the resturant to assist us so i had to get dressed and go down to the bar as there is no facilities in the bedroom to make tea of coffee, the second time i rang down they said it was closed when i rang reception i was informed that this was not true.I have travelled exstensivley and this was the the first time i have been let down by roomservice,apart from this we found the astoria a great place to stay

“ Top Tip: we found the two day hop on hop off green tour bus good value as you have a trip down the danube as well.

“ We found the hotel comfortable,clean and friendly and excellent value for money. The room was a good size and had all necessary facilities. Staff at the hotel were helpful and knowledgeable and gave us good advice and directions. The restaurant was lovely and the buffet breakfasts catered for every taste. We had dinner in the restaraunt twice, once when there was a musical event.

“ Top Tip: There is a small street near the hotel called Dub Utca and there are a couple of restaurants we used. The Drum cafe is brilliant, often busy and popular with younger people. The food there is good and excellent value.. The Alpry Pince has a very traditional menu and vibe.
