  • Nice hotel overlooking the Grand Canal, very close to the train and bus station. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. Our room was comfortable and clean. Breakfast buffet was great, tasty and with good food choices. Great location: water taxi stop right outside, water bus stop 2 minutes walk away but the best way to know Venice is to walk around. . I'd recommend the Principe.

For a 4* hotel it just looked a bit tired.
The hotel is on the Grand Canal and is just what we hoped for in location.
However on arrival we were located to a sister hotel in the same group about 100 yards along the street, Lista de Spagna, and on the opposite side thus having no Grand Canal View. In compensation we were offered 20% discount on our dinners at the hotel. We only took advantage of that facility once as Venice has so many other eating opportunities to be explored
The hotel to which we were assigned was also 4*, Hotel Amadeus. It had the same tired appearance but the rooms, service very speedy wifi, and particularly the breakfasts were all excellent. Dinner had to be taken in the Principe. We concluded that, apart from the loss of the view were very happy with the new arrangement
Although on the Grand Canal it is at the western end of the island and you have to walk almost the whole length of the island to arrive at St Marks. This takes a minumum of 40 mins walking briskly and more if strolling. On return we would prefer to be more central. The Vaporettos are very costly to use.

Top Tip: Excellent restaurant next door the the Amadeus called da Giorgio

We arrived at the Hotel Principe by a shared water taxi (Venice link) around 50 euro per person, but it was the first drop off and the hotel has a dock so we were 10 yards walk from boat to door, a great start.

We stayed in one of the classic doubles which wasn't on the Canal front and the room was fairly small (Room 308). No bath only a shower but bathroom very clean and shower powerful.

Room wasn't very large and wall paper peeling, small balcony but had a side view of the Canal.

The main plus for this hotel is the location, right next to the Ferrovia vaporetto stop and also walking distance to Rialto/St Mark via the winding streets and bridges (if you prefer to walk!). All well sign-posted and the maps can be followed if you concentrate!

Didn't eat in the restaurant at the hotel as their are lots nearby on the streets and we wanted to sample the local places.

Breakfast was good, continental but with scrambled eggs and cooked italian bacon. Coffee and pastries galore.

All in all decent value for money for the room we had, if the Canal facing rooms are bigger then it may have been worth paying more, but you don't need to spend much time in the room.

Top Tip: Difficult to pin point a single restaurant as plenty of nice ones near by. The Campo Geremia which is about 75 yards from the hotel has two lovely ones.
