Riad Opale

“ Staff were very friendly and helpful. Beautiful Riad situated on the outskirts of the Medina but we had some difficulty finding it - as did the taxi driver who dropped us off and informed us that a small boy was going to show us where it was. As it was this little boy had about as much idea as we did!!
Pool was lovely and it was very hot on the roof terrace but there was a shower up there to cool down. Nice area undercover on the roof terrace too.
Be aware that the Riad charge a tax when you check out.

“ Top Tip: Can recommend the Kosybar which is in the first square that you come to if walking to the main square and Souks. Environment, food and service very good.
Try not to look lost as locals will try to direct you and expect to be tipped, we did get ripped off by one lad who kept hassling us for more.
If you buy from anyone get a price agreed first. We were overcharged for a glass of grapefruit juice on one of the stalls - bit difficult to barter when you have drunk it.
Most restaurants serving alcohol usually charge extra for the food too.

“ The Riad Opale was almost excellent, it's in a great central location without being in the noisiest areas and can be reached via taxi straight to the door. The rooms are clean, great terrace and the staff welcoming. I would have like more information about how the Riad worked in the room, e.g. Breakfast times, Bar times/prices, how to use the safe so we didn't have to try and find someone and ask every time there was something we weren't sure of.
We didn't have a lock on our door and while there was someone there 24/7 I would have felt better being able to lock away our belongings when we went out. (If you feel the same way take a padlock).
The main let down for me was that the Riad was noisy during the day so afternoon naps were impossible (this was the staff shouting to each other across the whole riad rather than the guests).

This Riad is on the south side of the Medina and is about 20 minutes walk from Djemma el Fna so a lot of walking! The hotel were very helpful in organising a taxi to Gueliz and negotiating with the driver to get us a good price - the driver waited for an hour while we looked around Jardin Majorelle and then took us to the new town!

We had a lovely meal in the Riad and would recommend that you do this. Staff speak excellent English and were chatty and friendly - exactly like the rest of Morocco!

The hotel was great, it was a little way from the main action but this did mean that it was very tranquil and peaceful but not ideal if you are not good on your feet.

“ Top Tip: Dar el Barboud was a lovely traditional place to eat - this is about 50m from Katoubia Mosque and the food was fantastic - The menu is set at 430MAD about £35 this covers lots of starters, tagine (choice of about 10), deserts and mint tea. There are Moroccan musicians, dancing and a great atmosphere in a beautiful room. They did serve a good selection of alcohol even being so close to the mosque. This was the highlight of our stay and was recommended by the hotel.
