The Avenue Hotel is an excellent 3-star hotel in the historical centre of Amsterdam, with all well-known Amsterdam attractions within walking distance, yet only 30 minutes from Schiphol Airport. The hotel provides good-sized, comfortable rooms each with telephone, television. hairdryer, cable TV and pay-TV and internet access. The day starts with a delicious breakfast in the breakfast room.

You can eat as much as you like and each day of the week, you’re welcome in the cosy St. Jacobsstreet Café, located in the hotel, for a bite and a chat or a refreshing pint of Heineken.

Comfy and clean hotel for a city break. Good location with a 5 minute walk to central station and easy walking to all other attractions. Breakfast had a good selection on offer with everything you need to start your day. Top Tip - Plan your day and queue early for the major attractions or book online before you go as you can then join the 'fast track' queues. At Anne Frank's House we joined queue at 8am and went straight in when the doors opened at 9am and at the Van Gogh Museum we queued for just over an hour later that same day. Plenty cafes for food and drink all at reasonable prices.

Good points for hotel are to do with central location; short walk from Central Station and Dam Square. On tram routes with stop very short distance away. But bear in mind that being on a main road means noise - lot of noise - all night and I was not even on the front but a little way down a side road. Hotel itself had friendly reception staff and I was able to leave my luggage even though I was to early to check in. Also left luggage next day after check out. Room very small and plain - I don't recognise the pictures on this site - my room was very different but adequate. Breakfast was adequate but nothing special.

Top Tip: Indian restaurant immediately opposite was excellent. The Italian restaurant opposite and a little to the left was also very good. Unfortunately the Dutch restaurant a short walk down the road towards Dam Square was not good at all, neither food or service.
