“ The hotel is totally lacking in atmosphere. Arriving at the small reception you feel the dismal atmosphere because like the large passageways and the bedroom the carpets are in the main a dull grey the furniture modern but black and the walls sheer white with the woodwork in the bedrooms a dark brown imitation wood - all boring and dismal. The saving grace is the size of the bedrooms and bathrooms and especially the secluded balconies overlooking the valley to the sea in the far distance. The smallish and attractive old reception rooms are spoilt by modern black furniture and the restaurant is better described as a canteen with table cloths. So awful after the first night we never there again, although we could not complain about the food. The swimming pool was large and attractive but after a half hour we were driven away by the flies, and whilst there we never saw it being used. 3 out of 10!!
“ Top Tip: There is a gem of a hotel 6 kms away. Smallish but like a beautiful home. Good pool; a pitch and putt golf course; and childrens play area. The restaurant is most comfortable, the food outstanding and the staff most attentive and pleasant. The name Quinta dos Poetas. The chef who will obtain any fish you request is named Joao.

“ Just what we wanted! The hotel was excellent and all staff provided the highest levels of service. The hotel was relatively new (only opened Easter this year). If I had to comment on one trivial thing it would be that the hotel would benefit from providing a shuttle transport to Faro for those guests without transport (at a cost) although taxis and buses were reasonably priced. It could also have more local information readily available. Other than that we had an excellent stay, our first time in a Poussada and would stay in this or another Poussada in the future.
“ Top Tip: Vittore's Restaurant in the village of Estoi. Doesn't look much from the outside, but good inside. Excellent food, wine and service with a smile at cheap prices. Made a nice change from our normal eating in the hotel.
