Montechoro Hotel

“ My wife and I have stayed at this Hotel a number of times. Unfortunately this year, the Hotel was only lightly filled. So the main Dining Room was being used only for Breakfast and not Dinner. The choice available for breakfast was more limited than in previous years but was still very good. Dinner was taken in the Bambu Pool Restaurant and was not the usual Buffet Style, but Waiter served, with a fixed menu. Each evening, of the four nights we stayed, there was a choice of Starter, a Fish Course, Main Meal and Dessert, each with sub-choices. The food was good and portions were more than ample and such that we, along with others, sometimes omitted a Course because the portions served were so generous. My wife, who generally does not really enjoy "foreign" foods, and usually uses her eyes in the buffet situation to choose what appeals to her and also to take moderate portions. This time that option was not available to her which she found disappointing.
The Hotel, as usual was very clean and welcoming. The Staff very friendly and helpful and, on this occasion, because the Hotel was so lightly occupied, the Hotel Courtesy Bus did not operate its usual Timetable but operated as required and requested by the guests, both on departures and pick-ups, which suited those present.
There was some entertainment in the Hotel in which, this year my wife and I did not take part, mainly because it started about 10pm and, by that time, we were both tired and ready for bed (now in our late 70's) and with an "early" start. Breakfast is served from 7.30am to 10am, we usually arrived about 8.30am.
Despite these short comings this year, due to the limited number of guests present, my wife and I would not hesitate to stay there in the future.

“ Top Tip: Yes - a very pleasant Mini Market and Cafe within 50 yards of the front door! Come out of the front door, straight across the road, down the steps, 10 yards to your left then turn right to go down the hill and the Cafe is on that corner. We have been acquaintances of the Portuguese owners, who speak very good English, since our second visit to Portugal in 1999. The Family of the owners have an Orange Grove and produce the oranges which they sell in their shop and the Sumo de Laranja is absolutely delicious. We usually bring a few oranges home - much better than we get here. They also serve home made Portuguese soup, sandwiches and cakes at lunchtime along with alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.

“ 15 Minutes walk from the beach. Close to bars, shopping, restaurants. All staff speak English and are really helpful.

“ Top Tip: Take the taxi instead of the bus, it's cheap and much quicker (compared to London prices).
