Algamar Apartments

“ We have stayed here every year for the last three years. We are happy with the generally clean rooms and the fact that they are close to the running track, beach, marina and Mcdonalds. On this occasion though, it appears we were completely forgotten about for the ten days we stayed there. Our bed sheets and toilet facilities were not changed once, which we failed to report, and so we bought products we needed and did our own washing.

Although we should have reported this, we did not expect to be simply forgotten about.

“ This is a residential apartment block in a quiet location, with some apartments let to holidaymakers.
As such, there is no 'reception' or any other 'hotel' type facilities whatsoever, it's just an ordinary apartment block which may not suit some.
We paid £68 in total for four nights accommodation and were very happy indeed.
The apartment we were allocated, 303, was superb - spotlessly clean, very spacious and newly re-furbished with a new kitchen, bathroom and two new air-conditioning units (one in the lounge and one in the bedroom).
The balcony was pleasant and caught the morning sun.
We were on the third floor but there was a lift, so that was fine.
We spent a pleasant half day at the pool area, not the most picturesque but quite well maintained - we had it to ourselves for the whole time.
The location is excellent - 5 minutes walk in one direction to the marina, 5 minutes walk the other way to the beach (down past the Crowne Plaza hotel).
If we were to return to Vilamoura, we would have no hesitation in contacting Garvetur, the letting agents, and booking this particular apartment directly rather than shop around for anywhere else as it suited us perfectly.
The key collection on arrival, as mentioned in other reviews, is a bit of a faff but you soon get over it!

“ Top Tip: 1) The italian restaurant directly next door to the apartment block served very good food and had very friendly staff - it was ideal for us to go to on our first night when we arrived at 10pm.
2) There is an excellent local supermarket (one of the Jafers chain), about 2 - 3 minutes walk away directly behind the apartment block. Out the front door, turn right, turn right at the first opening, follow this path to the car park, straight across the car park, past the childrens play area and it's there.
3) The marina is quite modern and 'polished' but if you fancy a great seafood meal, with a feeling of 'real' Portugal, head to the sea front (follow the road down the side of the Crown Plaza hotel), turn left at the beach road and just keep on going - eventually, after around half a mile, you'll arrive at the old town section where there's an authentic fish market, a fruit market and around the fish market a collection of great, traditional sea-food restaurants.
