This hotel is near to Gare d' Oriente in Lisbon, on the site of Expo 98. It is 10 minutes from the airport, and the station carries main line and Metro services. There are also good bus links. The hotel is modern in appearance, and the Tivoli brand is a strong one. It has extensive conference facilities, and good bar and restaurant options. The included breakfast was excellent. We were on the 11th floor, with a view over the bay. The room was spacious and well appointed, but showing some signs of wear. The central air conditioning was poor and stuffy, which meant opening the window with the attendant traffic noise. There was no hospitality tray- just a coffee machine which used sealed sachets, and almost useless tiny cups.

The corridor, on that floor at least, was floored with laminate which B&Q must have rejected! it was badly laid and creaked when walked upon. There is a good indoor pool and jacuzzi, and a fitness rooms. Some reviews also include an outdoor pool, but this is not the case. Staff were unfailingly polite and helpful. I managed to lock my bag with passports and tickets- and key, inside. One call to reception saw a technician with strong pliers arrive within 10 minutes.

Top Tip: The Oriente area is very interesting, with some spectacular buildings, good restaurants, an Oceanarium, cable car, and good walking opportunities. The Metro trip into Lisbon centre from Gare d'Oriente takes about 25 minutes with 1 change. You can buy single trip or day tickets, or a pre-loadable card similar to the London Oyster Card. It doesn't offer the same big discount as the Oyster Card, but it's convenient, and top ups do carry a bonus amount. The system is modern and spotless, with enormously spacious stations. Watch out in Lisbon centre. I had my wallet stolen, and the tourist police office must have been the busiest building in town. It doesn't feel at all threatening- I didn't even know the wallet had gone for half an hour.

The hotel was in a great location close to the Expo 1998 site on the river. It was a short taxi ride from the airport but there was no airport noise. The breakfast gave a wide choice of hot and cold food and there were two restaurants in the hotel. Staff were friendly and helpful. Rooms were modern, light airy and very clean.
Only downside was that although we had a supeior room on 14th floor we were at the back of the hotel which faces the city but rooms are also above the main railway line into Oriente station. We did get used to the trains but did need to close the window and use the aircon at night. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Lisbon.

Top Tip: The restaurants within the Expo sites were great. Very good value with good choice of food. The fish dishes were excellent and the local wines were great and reasonably priced. There were also the usual 'chain' MacDonalds, Pizza Hut etc. in the Vasco Da Gama shopping complex just across the road from the hotel.

6 of us stayed at the Tivoli Oriente for 2 nights, in 3 standard twin rooms. We could not fault the hotel!! It was spotlessly clean, the staff were all very helpful and knowledgeable, it was in a great location and very close to the sea front. The breakfast was served between 6.30 and 10.30am, which was perfect for us, and they had a great variety of food on offer.

Top Tip: We went to a great little restaurant, recommended by one of the waitors at the hotel- we asked him for a place where he would eat with typical local portuguese food and atmosphere. He recommended the 'Camtimho do Alfredo' in Rua General Tabonda, Middle euf. And it was FANTASTIC! We had the option of meat or fish, and both were fabulous. 6 of us ate and drank plenty, all for 60 euros!!! It was the highlight of our weekend!
