Hotel is in a good central position behind the Park. Our room was better than we expected as we were given a Junior Suite, ie) separate bedroom and small lounge ,two shuttered balconies, one with fridge for free use. My sun worshipping wife loved the roof area. It is well supplied with tables, chairs and sun beds, All wiped down every morning.
This hotel is scrupulously clean, and our beds were changed every day. It is alittle old fashioned but retains a friendly atmosphere. The small bar/snack bar does not seem to be used by clients very much but I don't know why, the prices are cheaper than many local bars and it has a nice friendly feel to it.
Ther is a Snooker table in the lounge area, a small library and free use of a computer to keep in touch with home.
The breakfasts are very simple, consisting cereals, fruit, scrambled and boiled eggs and various breads and preserves. This does not vary from day to day.
All in all, for the modest price of this hotel it is first rate and we shall definately use it again.

Top Tip: There are various restaurants nearby, mainly on the street behind the hotel. We were recommended to go to the Londres restaurant, which we did. Unfortunately the food was not particularly good and the vegetables were soggy and tasteless, plus it was not cheap. The drinks too were expensive I was charged 9 Eur. for two large (50 cl.) beers. Just up the street from there, is the Xaramba Pizza/Pasta restaurant. For the record, the two beers in here on a later occasion cost only 4.4 eur. In addition we had Pizzas which were home made and delicious.
Our favourite which we used three times was the Espaco Restaurant, they have an excellent a la carte menu, but also have a menu of the day for 9.99 Eur. consisting starter, Main course, pudding and coffee. A complementary tot of the local brew is offered with the bill. A bonus is the lovely Daniela, who does her utmost to coax people in for a meal. The restaurant is very nicely decorated in a modern style and has a warm and friendly ambience. Try it you won't be disappointed.

Check-in date:

Room was not ready on arrival, although after 14.00,but receptionist smoothly remedied the situation with what I suspect was an upgrade, although I had said I was happy to wait as,staying for 8 nights I did not want to have to room change, but I was assured that would not be necessary.Room was spacious and spotless,as was the bathroom, which had plenty of space for toiletries - not always the case in hotels.Front of house staff were all extremely pleasant and helpful, booking my onward hotel transfer with their regular driver, who also offered to do my airport transfer as well.
This hotel is right in the centre of town, but undisturbed by traffic noise, two streets back from the main promenade, which makes for leisurely strolling at any time of day.

Top Tip: Use the buses - the fares are very reasonable compared to Britain.Visit Camera de Lobos-about ten minutes by bus-for the cliff-top gardens overlooking Cabo Girao, enjoy the sea breeze!
Ponta de Sao Lourenco is a spectacular walk on the south western tip of the island-bus to Baia d'Abra - good well-made track, but steep with many steps.
Walk the levada from Romeiros to the Jasmine tea house, bus back from there.

Check-in date:

Very friendly and helpful. 100yds to to the theatre and concerts, supermarket and town centre shopping. 200yds to the shore, harbour, buses and marina. Very central. overlooking tropical trees and gardens. Quiet location, we had two rooms, bedroom and living room, TV, fridge, balconies. Good breakfast, only cooked scrambled or boiled egg, but ample food. Huge variety of restaurants nearby with good cheap food.

Top Tip: The Teatro Baltazar Dias has concerts or theatre most nights, starting at 9pm, so time for a meal first. This is 100yds from the hotel.
