The nearest shops and Cemara de Lobos are located 2 km away, the closest nightclub is around 6 km away, and the airport is around 26 km from the hotel.The pleasing rooms come with an en suite bathroom (bath/shower/WC), hairdryer, a direct dial telephone, satellite/ cable TV, radio, a king-sized bed, carpeting, a hire safe and a balcony with a stunning sea view in all the rooms.There is a swimming pool with a children's pool in the hotel grounds as well as a poolside snack bar, sun loungers and parasols. The hotel and grounds were kept to a high standard. Our room and the setting of the hotel was excellent but the driveway was on a very steep incline up to the main road and bus stop, also there was a steep climb up from the beach/pool, this might be a problem for the less fit person or the elderly.
The hotel is about 30mins drive to the centre of Funchal and the yellow buses run about every 30mins during the day, it is worth getting a bus pass. The food was mediocre but we would come back to this hotel on a b&b basis.We choose this hotel for the peaceful setting and not being overlooked or looking in to other hotels, we were not disappointed.

Top Tip:
You need a car or a bus pass unless you are just going to enjoy the hotel. Most buses leave the main (Yellow bus) station in Funchal, to get around the island.
Vila do Peixie/Vila da Carne in Camara de Lobos and X Tonel restaurants (near Reids Palace) offer a courtesy bus. Restaurant Praia Formosa 5 mins walk on the beach also 5 mins walk to a restaurant along the main road turn left from the hotel

Breakfasts very good. Evening meal - starters and sweets very good, main course variable. Hotel in a good position away from the main hotel area in Funchal.
Whilst we were there we didn't find any other English guests in the hotel.
The hotel not suitable for anyone unable to cope with steps or steep slopes if they wanted to go to the pool or beach.
“ Top Tip: Baker's shop/cafe just up the road excellent value and also sold bottled water.

This is the second year running I have visited this hotel. Although the hotel is good and the staff are friendly and helpful, the bedrooms are spacious comfortable and clean.
The slight downful is the breakfasts which were at the least uninspiring and aimed at the German customers.
The hotel is about 6 km from the center of Funchal and although the hotel does supply a courtesy bus it it small and unless you book early you can not get a seat.
If you are feeling fit you can walk though.
“ Top Tip: There is a very good beachside restaurant just a short walk if you leave the hotel by the swimming pool exit and turn left and walk along the prom. It is the first one you reach.

“ Great hotel, wouldl surely be at least graded 4 star in Spain! Only complaint is that the price of drinks is excessive, a one litre bottle of water is 3 and a half Euros. Not really suitable for the less mobile and not suitable for wheelchairs.
“ Top Tip: Walk the promenade in either direction to Funchal or Callas de Lobos
