“ The staff at this hotel are so friendly and helpful, they cannot do enough for you. The studio this time was getting rather shabby in places although in the past it has been excellent. I will certainly stay here again next year if possible. Lovely location right on the seafront and near lots of restaurants and only 30 mins walk into Funchal at a steady pace. Supermarket directly across the road.

“ Top Tip: Solar de adjuda restaurant up the hill and across the road really good for steak on the stone and reasonable. They give a very generous shot of brandy and liquer after the meal too! The promenade walk starting from the Palms hotel goes all along to the nearby village, a great way to walk off all those lovely meals.

“ This was an excellent quiet hotel. Great if you do not want entertainment in the evening which as an older couple we didn't. Hotel dining staff very friendly, rooms large . Could not fault this hotel at all and would stay here again. Everywhere was spotless and clean. Staff courteous, friendly, efficient.

“ This hotel has exceptional views from all rooms. The reception staff could have been a little more helpful and the room cleaning was only adequate. However, we stayed bed and breakfast and the breakfasts were outstanding.

“ Top Tip: Happy tours in the arcade at the end of the road were very helpful and we did two tours with them which were both enjoyable and the drivers/guides were very knowledgable. I would certainly recommend using them.

There is no beach but has steps down for swimming in the sea. I think it would be difficult with small children as they could wander into danger easily.

Travel Republic have provided excellent five star service and we will certainly use them again.

“ Top Tip: A visit to the Forte on the edge of the old town and Losteria restaurants at the top of the hill at the side of the Monumental Lido Hotel are a must.
