Room clean but noisy from extractor fan below. Busy road at back of hotel which was quite noisy too.
Staff seemed rather miserable and reluctant to smile at first, yet when approached to ask for information their attitude changed and were then most helpful.

Ignore the fact that the exterior of the hotel can only be described as very ugly (1960s/70s building) because inside, the hotel is an oasis of calm, spacious, very tastefully decorated and stylish with all modern facilities. The room and en suite were very big, clean and comfortable with great views of the sea/Funchal. A fridge is provided but no tea/coffee making facilities which would be a welcome bonus. Breakfast buffet very good - but crowded if you go early - with a superb choice of foods. Restaurant manager very friendly and accommodating (he helped organise my guests' breakfast visit to celebrate a birthday and made them very welcome).
The hotel reception manager extremely helpful and friendly; definitely impressed with her professionalism. Other reception staff not as welcoming or helpful (not once was I acknowledged or smiled at) as you'd expect from Madeiran hotel staff who are usually extremely good. The only thing that lets this hotel down but I would definitely return despite this.
“ Top Tip: The Fort restaurant on Funchal seafront (bright yellow fort, cannot be missed) is exceptional. Delicious food and great service. Cannot fault any of the restaurants we tried in vicinity of Enotel Quinta do Sol.

I have stayed at this hotel previously, in 1998 and 2009 and had no hesitation in returning. Externally it is becoming a little weather-worn in appearance but internally is in excellent condition and service is good. The breakfast buffet boasts a wide selection of hot and cold food and my bedroom was of adequate size and comfortable. Wardrobe and drawer space was generous and there was a safe available for €10 per week. Free internet access is provided on a single public computer for which there was usually a queue, and wi-fi is available in the lounge for €10 per week.
During previous stays I have had a sea-view room and I would recommend this, as a slight drawback to my garden-view room this time was some noisy air-conditioning equipment outside which occasionally disturbed my sleep. As the hotel was nearly full I was unable to obtain a change of room.
“ Top Tip: I would recommend Le Chalet restaurant and the Villa Café, both near to the Pestana Carlton Hotel opposite to the Quinta Do Sol.

We enjoyed our stay at the Enotel Do Sol hotel, meals were very good, always a good selection of food which catered for everyone.
Staff were very polite and helpful.
Rooms were clean, shower over the bath so could be difficult if there are mobility problems.

Top Tip:
Frequent bus service right outside the hotel into Funchal and surrounding areas.
Taxi services excellent (get a price first) we used taxi's to tour the west and east side of the island, much better than coach tours!

Unsatisfactory

“ My room was at the back near the road and the bank of a/c machinery beneath the window ensured I got very little undisturbed sleep. The rest of the hotel was average, on the whole a disappointing experiance, I would never stay here again.
