The hotel in keeping with its 4* rating had all the necessary facilities. However, we were surprised to be asked to pay supplements to use the room safe and internet. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful at all times.
The hotel has a magnificent view over the bay which is particularly impressive in the late evening.
The hotel has entertainment every evening in the bar, including the parrot perched on my shoulder one night, much to the amusement of my wife!
Breakfast was a real highlight - an opportunity to feast before beginning another day exploring Funchal.
“ Top Tip: The walk down hill into the town takes you past lots small shops and bars, all of which bulk with the local character. The town itself had so many places cafes and restaurants, we were spoilt for choice. There were many small groups and individuals performing as part of the festival: - jazz, brass, dancers etc, all in organised entertainment.

This is sadly a hotel that has the potential to be better than it is. Very clean and tidy with a nice pool area and lounge, it fails to live up to its expectations and it is the kind of things that you would expect a 4 star to be providing. For instance there is no daily resupply of tea/coffee facilities in the room, the room safe is an added extra, there is no explanation that the wine at mealtimes is over 3 euros a glass and the food is at best mediocre.
The staff are very friendly and the hotel location is good for central Funchal, and as such there are those that will no doubt find it ideal. It tends to cater for the older generation and as such it does lack "atmosphere".
Not a 4 star but an acceptable 3 star for those seeking a quiet break.

“ We enjoyed our stay at the hotel. We found all the hotel staff to be friendly and very helpful. The hotel was clean, in good decorative order and well located. The only criticism I have concerned the food. On three consecutive nights we found the dessert counter was empty and had to ask for food. This is not something I was expecting to do in a 4 star hotel.

“ Excellent hotel with beautiful views, situated on the hill so be prepared for climbing (or you can travel by bus/taxi if you do not like walking). The food was decent, staff spoke English, room was very clean. The hotel itself is very nicely decorated. We are very glad we chose this hotel for our stay in Funchal. Highly recommended

Clean, tidy and well maintained hotel but a little out of the main area - needed to use public transport or taxis just to get to any location such as town and restaurants.
Ideal if you wanted to sit around the pool all day and stay within hotel complex to eat and drink at night. Views marvellous!
Staff very attentive but gave the impression they did not understand english. Asked reception how to get to local bus stop to get to town - just told downstairs despite there is a complex one way road system at the side and below the hotel with only a narrow pavement (could see bus stop but get there complicated) - little things that made it occassionally frustrating.
