“ Great hotel with friendly staff and a decent location in terms of access. It is not in the middle of the centre, but the walk is short and relatively pleasant, and for those who prefer to not walk, the Metro is right there. The room was incredibly large and nicely furnished. The restaurant staff were very friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was fantastic. The only drawback ( is that the indoor pool incurs additional charges (around 11 Euros per person per day).
“
Top Tip:
If you use the Metro, be sure to 'touch in' with your card on every transfer to a new train and every time you enter the station: you will not be charged more and the light colour (green vs red) tells you if your current ride is still valid.
Across the street from the hotel is Pingo Doce, which is good for buying water and such for the in-room refrigerator. Near the hotel there are two shopping malls: 1) Via Catarina which has many nice standard 'high street' type shops, and 2) which although has fewer shops it has a Minipreco market in it. Also, right past Via Catarina is the Bolhao Mercado -- be sure to visit that for the sights and smells of an active market that has everything (live, fresh animals, too!).

Helpful staff.
Beautifully clean.
Spacious comfortable room.
Good location - close to Metro, and easy walking distance from the city's main attractions and facilities.
Would definitely choose Vila Galé hotel again on any future visit to Porto.
“ Top Tip: Hotel is a good location for walking to main attractions of the city, and the bus station. Also very close to Metro with direct service to airport.

“ The Hotel does not look nice where its located , took us by surprise when the taxi drove up to it. AT first its not impressive however we ended up enjoying where we were located. Its roughly 5 min walk to Santa Caterina , main shopping road of the city and there is loads of small and unique caffe's , bars along the way. The metro is 2 min walk away but we never used it to get to the city. The breakfast at the hotel was brilliant. Could not fault it. The Swimming Pool and Spa costs, never went to it. The room was ok.
“ Top Tip: Walking was the best option to get to know the area and the local shops. The City has many sites and cute roads with local places. In 4 days we didnt see everything however we did get most of the sites. There is tour bus's, in my opnion skip the boat ride and do the Yellow bus instead of the Red. Taxi from the airport was E20 however the metro cost £2 with no change ie one line, very easy. We also used the metro to go to the beach, it took 40min to get there, again one line, no change. There is a resturant opp the hotel, very traditional portuguese. Very cheap and the food was fantastic! We ate there 3 evenings in a row. Unfortunately the opening times of the restaurants is very Mediterranean, close at 3pm and open at 7pm. I would also suggest to walk in comfortable trainers, everything is up hill and down hill with cobbole streets, a real work out fro the legs! Drinks and Food very cheap but not ideal for shopping ladies. Loved Porto!

“ The hotel staff was extremely courteous, helpful and friendly. Service was excellent and the room was clean and efficiently serviced during our stay. Meals at the hotel were excellent. Bags of breakfast food were supplied because of a very early start on our departure day.
“ Top Tip: The closest station, Campo 24 Agosto, of the extremely efficient Metro System was only 100m away. A tourist Metro Pass, giving unlimited Metro Travel for 1 or 3 days, may be purchased at the airport. The Metro from the airport passes through the Campo 24 Agosto station. The hotel is also just a short walk from the popular shopping and tourist sections of Porto.

“
The hotel was very comfortable and well placed for discovering the city, Not so much around it but some typical bars and one excellent restaurant.
It was not in the middle of clubland which is a bonus and had wonderful views across the city, to the ocean and the river bridges.
Great spa, except we were too busy discovering or watching the ocean to use it.
Dining good, staff helpful. The piano bar had good entertainment but has yet to find its identity.
“ Top Tip: Yes But need to look up the names....I'll get back to you.
