ocean view rooms well worth paying the extra for.Breakfasts would be improved by providing orange juice(instead of squash),a wider choice of cereals and decent coffee(undrinkable from the machine!).Friendly and professional bar staff.

Top Tip: Recommend Pata Rocha for a fish restaurant and Maretta next door(owned by the same people) for grilled chicken. They are located less than 5 minutes walk from the hotel.Turn to the right on leaving the hotel and walk along the main road, passing Rua Das Pescadores on your right. The restaurants are on your right.

This is the 3rd year we have stayed at this hotel and it has become markedly rundown. The staff are unhelpful at best but are generally openly dismissive.
We stayed for 1 week as a family in 2 adjoining rooms. Both rooms had old and shabby furnishings with torn curtains and broken curtain fittings. Our daughters' room had broken wall tiles on the floor of the balcony, mold growing on the marble all around the bathroom taps, we were unable to lock the patio doors (since the rooms were on the 1st floor this was a security issue especially for a room with no adults) and the airconditioning did not work. We asked to be moved, but were told there were no other adjoining rooms available and to ask again the next day. We asked for the airconditioning to be repaired and this was added to the 'list'. During the evening it became apparent that there was a nightclub immediately opposite our rooms.
The patio door in our daughter's room apparently needed you to reach over one side of the door and 'wiggle' it until the lock fitted in place - only my husband had arms long enough to do this!
We asked 2 days running if we could be moved, but were each time told to ask the following day. We gave up and just tried to enjoy the holiday.
I bought some bleach in the local supermarket and cleaned the mold on the 3rd day, since none of the cleaning staff seem to be able to deal with it even when told to use bleach (I speak some Portuguese so no language barrier).
The lack of aircon in our daugthers' room was reported every day and everyday it went on the 'list'. It never worked and the girls ended up sleeping on the floor of our room for 2 nights as the heat in their room was unbearable and they couldn't have the patio door open because of noise and the fact that it was reasonably easy access to their balcony.
Neither room has a fridge or minibar, which being a summer beach front hotel, makes access to a cool drink impossible. You could ask reception to store 'things' in a fridge but then you'd have to request them back - there was no free access to a fridge or cooling facility.
The only saving grace of this hotel is its location close to the beach, good restaurants and a short hop to Lisbon.

Top Tip: We really enjoyed all the meals we had in a restaurant on the seafront called Barbas - great traditional Portuguese food. Just be aware that their portions are enormous, so go on an empty stomach!

Rooms were in need of refurbishment - rather dowdy and worn. Bedlinen, and beds were not up to standard expected of a 4* hotel. Not a good hotel for holidaymakers - much more a business hotel where a night or two is all that's spent there. No entertainment in the evenings and the restaurant shut at the end of October. Although there was satellite TV it was Portuguese TV and only one news station was in English (BBC News 24) - very disappointing especially with no other entertainment. Staff were lovely - food has a long way to go but edible. The beach area right in front of the hotel is a distaster area but currently under refurbishment to be finished in 2009. Hotel was pleasantly quiet but the road outside was very noisy.

Top Tip: The tourist information centre just a five minute walk away is very good indeed. You can have 1 hour's free internet use and the equipment is up to date. All tourist officers speak very good English and are extremely helpful. If going to Lisbon for the day best to go on public transport - bus to the ferry terminal on the Tagus and ferry (10 minutes) across to Lisbon - ten minute walk takes you into the very centre of Lisbon - very popular with tourists.
