this is a no singing and no dancing hotel, a fit for purpose holiday hotel for us. we used it to shower and sleep, staff were all very helpful to any requests we made. if in the area again, which i will be i will use again. if its the ritz you want then be prepared to pay for it. i would recommend taking earplugs then if you dont hear you dont complain.

Top Tip: lots to do around the hotel

We are 60 year old couple and we have stayed twice at the Goya in 2011. The hotel is nice enough and comfortable for the money you pay. Breakfast is basic but was enough for us. The room was clean and comfortable. Beds made and bathroom tidied every day.

It is rather far out from the city centre (about 25 minutes walk) but it is a pleasant walk, although uphill going back. If we didn't feel like walking, we would get the 21 or 22 bus near the beach and for 1.25 euros each, it took us a five minute walk from the hotel (stop Plaza Luceros).

We have really enjoyed our two 4 day stays in Alicante and would like to go again and will probably stay at the Goya next time because it doesn't cost much and we don't spend a lot of time there anyway.

Top Tip: We think Alicante is a lovely city to visit because as well as the numerous shops and restaurants, there is a lovely harbour area and good clean beach.

The tram makes many towns along the coast easily accessible and we would recommend seeing Villajoyosa and Altea.

Cannot speak for all the rooms, but the one we had did not have any windows; or in actual fact they had windows but they had been boarded up. This would be ok if, like us, you were only staying for 2 nights but it could become very uncomfortable if staying any longer. the air conditioning unit was not able to compete. The room is very basic but clean and the staff were fine and friendly.

Top Tip: The Duke Bar is just a short walk away from the hotel, next to the beautiful Plaza de Locerros and well worth a visit.

You get what you pay for. Hotel dated but was fine for us as the beds, towels etc were clean and we only needed the room to sleep in. Easy walk to town centre and the beach/harbour.

Even though it was only 2 star hotel- i expected the tatty decor but it could have been cleaner. The sheets and towels were clean but the 'no smoking room' smelt very strongly of smoke and air freshener on arrival, as did the furneshings which was very off putting as a non smoker especially in the heat. The tv was broken, the electrical socket was hanging off the wall, the air conditioning was broken and the ceiling fan sounded like a helicopter was in the room so made it very difficult to sleep and it was too hot to switch off.
The reception staff were pleasant enough and could speak English which made life easier.
Breakfast was quite nice. Boiled eggs, some beans, bread, some meat and cakes etc, with an orange juice and cofee machine. On the second day, i asked the non- smiling waitress for more coissants as the basket was empty. She brought some through then picked up my room key to check the number?! I heard another guest ask if there were any more tea bags- after she told her 'no' she checked her room number too?! Dont know what that was about.
The hotel was at the end of a bit of a steep road in the old town of Alicante. Its about a 10-15 min stroll downhill to town, with shops, cafe's etc on the way and we tended to get a taxi back to the hotel from the centre of a night at a cost of around 6e, this was easy enough as there was a taxi rank near the fountain in town. We stayed 3 days my husband and i for 3 days with oyr 14year old son- as an extention to a week we'd had in an appartment in nearby Gran Alacant. It was a bit of a shock to our son. I could recomend it to people who dont mind a bit of noise or a bit of a walk, as somewhere to sleep, but not with children. Shame as with a bit of a clean it would be better. Im not usually fussy and for the price i dont suppose i can really complain.

Top Tip: Alicante itself is lovely. A nice beach, beautiful pirt with lots of lovely bars and restaurants around the port and town. We had some lovely meals and if you want a taste of local flavours reasonably priced try the old town little side street restaurants.
