Expecting a four star hotel, admittedly we were very disappointed. Firstly, the location - the hotel was located on a mountain, certainly not within walking distance of the beach.
Secondly, we had read that there was complementary water - we were given 2 tiny bottles the day after arrival to last us the whole week. We ended up needed to buy 4 gallons from not-so-nearby supermarket in the town of Altea (15 mins). This was true up until the hotel changed ownership last year; it went from a Melia hotel to a Pierre et Vacances hotel, whose standard is certainly not the same as Melia's. Room service is not what you would expect in this level of accommodation - rooms are serviced only three times a week. We have been in a two star motel in Majorca where the beds are made daily, as one would expect.
Now the food...
We booked B&B, but upgraded to Half Board. This was the worst decision of our holiday. Breakfast was reasonable, but the evening meal was undoubtedly sub-standard - not a boiled potato in sight (apart from the at the local supermarket).
Sir Walter Raleigh clearly didn't stay at this hotel, and will turn in his grave at the lack of potatoes. In fact, the dinner at that that two star we stayed at in Majorca was 10/10. On the same scale, here the dinner was 3/10 at best.
What about the spa...
We were looking forward to using the spa facilities - this was one of the reasons as to why we chose this hotel. We were gobsmacked to find out that we had to pay 6 Euros per person every day. For the two of us using these facilities for the week, we had to fork out an extra 84 Euros. Admittedly, the spa facilities were up to four star standard.
All in all, we would rate our stay 4/10. Although, on first glimpse, the hotel decor appeared to be four star superior, we were truly let down by this sub-standard hotel. Taking all on board, if I were to rate this hotel, I'd say it was a 2 star plus at best.
We suggest you do not go to this hotel; but if you decide to go, do not pay any more than £180 per person for the week (for the accommodation on B&B basis)
“ Top Tip: The hotel is miles away from Altea. Expect to pay 15 Euros each time you wish to leave the hotel. IF YOU DO ONE THING ON THIS HOLIDAY, HIRE A CAR.

“ the hotel would have been suitable for families and young people had they not decided to close the swimming pool for refurbishment. this was not publicised on their web site or when I rang for a quote or even when we checked in. We asked to be moved to the Altea Villa Gadia hotel down the road which they did so we ended up having a lovely time!

The hotel itself was excellent as a facility, however there were staff issues. Prior to arriving we specifically requested a cot for our 2 year old. This was not in teh room when we arrived, and indeed was not in the room when we returned to the hotel to put the children to sleep. WE had to ask the reception 3 times to facilitate this request.
Secondly although the hotel has 5 pools, our 4 year old and 2 year old were told byt he life guard that they could not use swimming aids in the pool (even the one specifically for children). This led to the duty front desk manager being brought to the pool who advised us that it was company policy. Eventually when the senior manager was consulted they relented and our daughter was allowed to use a small inflatable childrens swimming aid.
I did not expect this from a so called 5 star establishment
