Hotel clean and tidy.
Pool no good for sunworshippers as it is largely in the shade, on the plus side this meant that it was reasonably quiet and a pleasant place to spend a very hot day.
Breakfast ok
Bedrooms were ok, nothing special but reasonably sized and clean.
Pillows poor and beds very hard
Wifi worked well

Although this hotel is a relatively new addition to Calpe, we found it somewhat jaded. The lifts had been spoilt by people carving graffiti onto the wooden paneling. The bath in our room (219) had mold under a ledge which had been there some time. Also, the shower head did not pivot, so one had to stand very close to the 'tap end' of the bath in order to catch the spray from the shower.
The restaurant was very large and represented a school dining room at peak times. The food itself was a disappointment. We were informed it would be very good, but found it to be standard Spanish mediocha fare.
“ Top Tip: The best aspect of this hotel is its location overlooking the beach, with many bars and shops within yards of the front door.

“ Lovely view facing beach (would not have liked to be on the other side of the hotel). Only 1 power point in room. Godd job we took our own travel kettle as there was not one provided.
“ Top Tip: Lots of lovely restaurants close to hotel and cafes. The Kiwi cafe was exceptional.

This hotel is not a 4-star hotel . The Reception / entrance hall / lobby is very plain to the extent of being depressing . Bars closed most nights . Freshly cooked eggs at breakfast only available one morning. Only basic menu for breakfast with tinned fruit.
When compared to the adjacent 4-star Gran Hotel Sol Y Mar this hotel should be given a 2-star rating. Breakfast at the Gran Hotel Sol Y Mar could not be faulted .
Upgrade to Sea view room is essential as other rooms look towards roads or internal.

I would rate this hotel a 2 star not 4 for the following reasons:
I have seen a better selection of breakfast and evening meal in a school canteen. We were always there about 10 mins after opening and the food was always cold and it was chips every night, no variation eg potatoes or veg. Cereals in the morning were cheap tasteless cornflakes and coca pops. We were there for two weeks on half board and full sea view and the meals never varied.
We would not recommend this hotel to any other nationality other than Spanish, unless you are only having an overnight stay. Even the manager when asked said that this is a Spanish hotel.
After looking around the hotel across the road the Soly Mar, this seemed far superior and that was a 4 star.
Apart from the promanade the whole of Calpe was very steep and not recommended for elderly people and not wheel chair friendly.
