Claris Hotel

“ Very central to everything. Spotlessly clean and very good food. Pretty pricey but no more than you would expect of a 5 star in the centre of a major city.
Room was ok but pretty dark - we were on the first floor which seemed to be below ground level at the back.
Pool area is great for a couple of hours relaxation.

“ I was very disappointed to learn that our original booking had changed the night before we were due to arrive at our hotel, we were transferred to the Claris not through choice. I do not think this should be classed as a 5 start hotel!

Initially it looked a good hotel, but was a bit too far off the beaten track and when we arrived we were told that there were no twin rooms available and only had doubles, which wasn't the best start. The room was tiny, swing a cat you couldn't and the reception staff weren't over friendly! But the roof terrace was fab both in the evening and during the day - so this compensated a little for the not so good.

“ In its day, I'm sure that this hotel was the creme de la creme... It paled in comparison, however, to some of other 5 star hotels where I have stayed. The room where we were first placed had a small window which allowed almost no natural light into the room and, resultantly, was quite claustrophobic. On requesting a different room, there was no problem in attempting to accomodate us, however, no other rooms with a double bed were available and we were left with a twin room. The breakfast was also mediocre. Orange juice had to be requested from the waiting staff and was not freely available on the buffet table. The buffet was adequate and the food was fresh. We had to wait a considerable time to order our hot food and when it arrived, the order was incorrect. the location of the hotel was good and we were within 15 minute walking distance of La Rambla and 3 minute walking distance of many shops and tapas bars. All in all, the hotel was adequate. Certainly not 5 star and certainly not worth the price.
