Barcelo Atenea Mar Hotel

“ The staff were very welcoming and helpful. The room was very clean but could have done with more sound proofing. The tv was not very good - most stations were un-obtainable or very fuzzy. When we complained the response from the staff was instant and sincere but to no use-it still didn't work! We were offered another room though-which was very generous but impractical. The spa/gym was clean and bright but too small for such a big hotel-the sauna was tiny and the steam room uncomfortable. The jacuzzi/power tub was very good though.

“ Top Tip: Transport into the centre was excellent - the 41 bus stops right outside the hotel and taxis are easy to hail.We found a beautiful beach just across the road with great facilities-showers,toilets,beds,cafe-bar and all very clean and friendly.

“ Checking in/out was friendly and efficient. Requested room on upper floor with sea view and this granted. Lovely to wake up to sea view. Breakfast consisted of a good choice of cereals/breads/cheeses/cooked meats/boiled and scrambled eggs/fresh fruit/croissants and pastries.


Only slight negative was the room was too hot and the air con was not operating.

“ Top Tip: The walk from Selva de Mar underground to the hotel takes you past some local bars and restaurants. Bar Albatross sells 1E beers and service comes with a big smile.

The Diagonal Mar shopping centre near the hotel has a great selection of shops.

“ hotel room that i paid for was meant to have a double bed, twin room was only available which was disappointing. location to far away to walk to la rambles, but the bus stops 2mins outside hotel which takes you right there. much preferred staying at this hotel and travelling into centre than staying in the centre as its to busy. lovely clean hotel.

“ Top Tip: if you stay at this hotel u will use public transport to travel around to see things. we spent 2days paying for taxis and it costs a fortune. top tip would be to buy a T-10 pass at the metro centre and this allows 10 journeys on all means of transport. deffo worth buying.

“ Staff are very friendly and efficient. The rooms are also clean and well furnished. Breakfast is good with plenty of choice. Nearest metro is Selva de Mar about 10 minutes walk away.

“ Top Tip: The metro tickets were good value - use as often as you like for 3 days - 18.50 euros. Either go to Placa Catalunya on first full day and get a tourist bus ticket 23 euros (get on and off where you like) or get off the metro at berceloneta and take a trip on the cable car, 10 euros. Both are good to get an orientation of Barcelona.
Men - keep your wallet as hidden as possible preferably with something with a zip. Women - bag with zip. Pick pocketing is unfortunately very prevalent in Barcelona and the harder you make it for them the less likely they are to try to rob you.
