Very Good

Check-in date:

We stayed at the 5-star Gran Villaitana in Oct 2011. Hotel is very nice and staff were very friendly. Bedrooms are very spacious with a lovely balcony area. Breakfast was great & champagne was free to 5star guests. Heated outdoor pool and baby pool were good.

We were disappointed by the following:
1. Sewage smell in our bathroom for the duration of our 5 day stay. All rooms appeared to have this issue as my parents room had the same smell, only much worse.
2. Very limited choice of restaurants. Italian open from 13.00 to 16.00. One sandwich bar open for most of the day but only offered toasted sandwiches and drinks. Then a buffet restaurant open from 20.00 to 23.00. The Golf club house serves bar food /burger & chips for most of the day.
3. We previously stayed at a 5star hotel in Dubai. The 5 star standard in Dubai is much higher than in Spain. 5 star in spain is good but not first class like that in Dubai.
4. Not much to do at the hotel when it rains. Very easy to get bored. We hired a car for 3 days which was useful on rainy days.

Top Tip: Nice wine shop on site offering free wine taste. Lovely wine.

Go to the old town area in Benidorm & book a table at "The Vagabond". Open from 7pm. Great food and atmosphere. Best night of our trip. Food was great & very tasty, much better than served in the hotel.Other points:
Pint of beer in hotel is approx 4euro. Bottle of water is approx 3.50euro. Taxi ride one-way into the old town area of benidorm is 8euro. One hour use of internet access using the reception area computers costs 5euro.

Excellent oasis away from the hustle and bustle of nearby Benidorm.
A very good base to tour other areas of the Costa Blanca, Free parking at the hotel which is something that can't be guaranteed in Benidorm itself!
Food whilst buffet style was excellent as was the service. The standard rooms are very spacious and well appointed. The swimming pools are vast and welcoming with no shortage of sunbeds at any time of the day. All I can say is we will return and would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Top Tip: Ask for a pool facing room.
A hire car is a must or be prepared to pay 20 euros round trip into Benidorm.
Local brew Mahou at 3.50 euro a pint very reasonable for a 5 star establishment.

Hotel was lovely, very clean, very big but food and drink is very expensive. It may be less expensive to go 1/2 board at this hotel as the evening buffett is 27 euro each and if you have a big family it can work out very expensive. There are no shop on the complex so make sure you have every thing you need as it ill mean a taxi ride if you haven't.

Top Tip: Hire a car! taxi's are very expensive around 12 euro just to get into Benidorm and they only take 4 passengers there are no people carriers at all so if you are a family of 6 the round trip to go to the chemist or shop would be around £40.00 for a 5 min ride!
