“ Melia Atlanterra is a good 4* hotel near Zahara just north of Tariffa. It's an ideal place for a relaxing break with good standard and facilities and a good sized pool. The majority of the visitors (90%) are Spanish some with young children - very behaved and no issues. There's a restaurant with a terrace for breakfast/ lunch or dinner and a pool bar and beach bar for snacks and lunch. The quality of the food was very good although a little bit too much emphasis on five - 5 choices one night, but to be expected I suppose given the majority clientele. The layout of the food over the different cooking stations is a bit challenging and requires military precision at breakfast - some one goes for the toast, some one for the other hot food as too spread out. We spent 5 nights here before moving on which was a good length of time as we wanted to relax. A car is essential especially if flying to Seville - 2hrs+ away. The hotel has six biuldings named after the Andalucian cities around the pool. The buildings are in Andalucian style with an inner garden once through the main entrance - some one storey some two. BEWARE there are no lifts in these buildings so you will need to be fit or ask for porter service. There is an animation team who will leave you well alone if you want and a great focus on childens activities. There is limited evening entertainment which takes place in the beach bar so some distance from the hotel. NOTE the price of drinks here INCREASES from those charged during the day but not value for money. A jug of sangria costing €14 in the afternoon is €21 in the evening and seems to come from a ready made plastic container - not the greatest. Parking at the hotel can be costly and difficult towards the main enterance. There are a lot of cars park on the dirt verge on the "main road" through the village. Really enjoyed our time there and adapted to the requirements in the restaurant. The pool becomes VERY quiet around 2.30 pm until 6pm when the Spanish families return from lunch / siesta.
“ Top Tip: The location of the hotel is on a "B" Class with limited bus service - around 5 times a day so a car is essential. The hotel is on the beach and is neighboured by some condominium style properties which is very popular with Spanish families. Out with hotel a limit knowledge of English is understood so arm yourself with a phrase book. The small village of Atlanterra has a few grocery stores with two across the road from the hotel. There are one or two restaurants interspersed within the condos but make sure you have sufficient cash / cards as there is no ATM in Atlanterra and you will need to travel to Zahara for a machine.
