Basic but clean and adequate,. Great if you don't want to be in a tourist resort. Ideal of you want a quiet relaxing holiday right on the beach and with a good size pool, good for wheelchair bound or elderly as there's no slopes or hills to climb. Mainly Spanish or Germans holidaying here but all very friendly. Plenty of good restaurants and much cheaper than the main resorts. Great holiday and we didn't want to return home!

Top Tip: make sure you email the hotel before arrival as it isn't a 24hr reception they will arrange with you where to collect keys if out of hours

Bar Granada was the only English bar and everyone was so friendly

For a 1 star accommodation I did not expect much, (You get what you pay for). Which suited me and the wife since all we wanted was a bed to sleep in, and the use of a shower when we weren't out soaking up the sun and relaxing. However, we were pleasantly surprised with our apartment which was clean and modern. There was no air conditioning but we were East facing and so, past mid-day, the sun was no longer heating the room up. I got the impression all the apartments in the resort are privately owned, since no 2 doors in the corridor were the same so I cannot comment on the others. The staff in reception spoke a little English and were really helpful, with a sense of humour
This resort seems to be used primarily by the Spanish, which I consider to be a good sign. Most of the restaurants, which are many, have menus in Spanish and German only (most of the dishes though, can be figured out), and the staff do not speak much English but are helpful. There is a small English bar called Bar Granada along the Promenade run by an English couple.
The beach, although long, consists of grey sand, peppered extensively with stones (not rocks), so before laying your towel down, you will need to clear some space.
There really is not much to do in Algarrobo except drink, eat and relax, which suited us on this occasion. I googled "things to do in Algarrobo" before going out and the only response I found was "hire a car" which I can understand if your looking for a touristy, busy, sightseeing holiday. Car hire in this location, I found to be expensive at 45 euros a day for the cheapest. If you planned to drive a bit, I suggest you dispense with transfers from the airport and hire a car there instead, which seems much cheaper, and drive to Algarrobo. This way, you don't have to worry about the transfers picking you up on time for the return journey.
We caught a bus to Nerja which only cost 1.40 euros each. Apparently a bus to Malaga costs about 4 euros so this is a cheaper alternative of travel.
